Post by osudoc21 7/14/2008, 9:58 am

well i decided this weekend to go with a supercharger instead of having my engine done first, so i am thinking of the vortech centrifugal, it would put me right at 500 flywheel and only cost 4000 to do right now

kurtis is checking on a procharger, so we will see what costs the least. vortech has a tuner kit for 3300 that i would only have to buy 39lb injectors for, so for 3700 i could have 500 horses under the hood!!

Doc... I leary of those 500hp claims from Vortec.... I've read plenty of people that were lucky to get 400-425hp.

BUT! You do have cams that should help you get their.

after looking at everything and talking with kurtis i need to go with a cooler on it, which raises the price by about 1000, so now i am looking at around 4700 for a procharger.

the good news is we can install it ourselves so that saves some money and sitting time!

If you don't go intercooled you can use the water meth kits they work real good and even better on intercooled kits

I too am leaning toward the HO vortech or Procharger intercooled. I think I like the procharger better with the intercooler mounted down behind the front facia. The vortech unit and aftercooler looks a bit busy.

I have a Vortec on my truck and it makes good HP but like 70% is in the 300 rpm before you shift. It maybe different on the 4.6 but I would think it would be as bad or worse cause they are laking in low and mid rang torque and HP as it is. Just My .02. Seems more like a turbo with lots a lag.

I too was also thinking of going with the Procharger when funds allow....David and I have tossed around ideas of a Procharger setup. Doc in my opinion...the Procharger has the most complete kit...its a stand alone system that doesnt require tapping your oil pan like the Vortech, Intercooler is behind the bumper, and its a lot louder at idle...which I like :)

Good luck in your decision....I just want a ride when your done!!!

I like proven results. Also Vortech's arent usually that loud at idle...they like to keep things quiet over there at Vortech. ewwww
