your right... my bad...
what was decided on the custom speaker box?
i've built a few thousand in my lifetime....
Re: INTERIOR
Start working up some ideas Kirby...you are more than welcome to design it!! That would be pretty cool.
Only thing is we need to figure out what Sub we are putting in there. That way we can work out the free air space needed and the box design will coincide with that

Re: INTERIOR
yeah... 10 inch sub needs at least 1 cubic feat where a 12 inch sub needs at least 3 cubic ft.... so think about how much room you want to take up in (i'm assuming) the trunk... also if you want to port the box it will need to be about 10% bigger to adjust for the air space
Re: INTERIOR
Gotcha....Jerry is working out the component set we are looking at purchasing. The sub Im still not sure about.
Does anyone have a nice subwoofer they arent using..that they would be willing to donate??

Kirby, The specs on different brands vary, I know the 10's I had in my car in high school required 2 cubic feet each. Manufactures put the specs of each speaker out there. A single 10" bazooka tube would be cool..

Re: INTERIOR
i'm just saying in general... to give them an idea of how much space they want to take up with a sub... the 10" RF punches I have sounded better at 3 cubic ft than the 1.5 the factory said to use.... but you can get two 8's and make it sound good in a hatch....
Re: INTERIOR
David.. how much of the hatch are you willing to lose to have speakers? Would a false floor about 3" deep be ok? I am thinking build a box that is within the confines of the rear and deeper at the spare tire well. Have one 12" woofer centered over the spare tire well for depth. Then put a top on it that is the shape of the rear hatch area. The topper can be made of something fairly thin and we can squeeze it into place. It would take some work but I think it is doable. We could build it all out of 1/2" MDF in order to keep the weight down a little. I have always used 3/4" in the past for speaker boxes but I wasnt concerned about weight at that time. I am thinking a box that size and one 12" woofer with one descent bridgable amp would pound out some bass. I dont think there is enough space in the rear of a stang to do more than one speaker and give it the necessary space like Kirby was saying. If the

depending on what deck and all around speakers that will be used.... you could get away with a small sub custom fit to one of the sides
Re: INTERIOR
Needs to stay to one of the sides or be hidden under the carpet in the tire well. The carpet I got for the hatch area is embroidered with a pony logo so I'd like to not have it interfier with that if possible

Re: INTERIOR
Then it almost needs to be either one 8", one 10" (Maybe) or a bazooka tube type speaker mounted behind the back seat on top of the carpet. What do you think about cutting the inner pannel in the rear so the box can go all the way out? I am trying to figure out how to do it to where you get good sound but not take up much space. I am thinking a small box on each side with a single 8" on each side. If we put a single speaker in the tire well it too would need to be a 8" to get enough space to work well. A 10" would work there but the air space isnt enough so it wont sound great. It would work but it wouldnt work well. I have done quite a few boxes in my younger days. I did one that the local stereo shop in St. Charles where we lived asked if they could measure and copy it worked so well. I am no expert but I have done a few of these. I know kirby has also. I think we could come up with something nice for it. Do you have speakers and an amp yet? I know you have a deck and I think you do have an amp.

Re: INTERIOR
somebody used to make a speaker box specifically for the hatchbacks spare tire well....
looks like anything in the wheel well will mess with the logo....
it wouldn't be that hard to custom fit a 10" sub on one side or the other and keep it stealthy

Re: INTERIOR
I have an amp. Dont have any speakers other than stock. Although I think that the front ones in the dash are newer not stock. I think that I would like to have a box built into the spare tire opening. It can be done I think with a 10" sub with plenty of air room. There is as least 2 cubic feet in that hole for the spare tire. Keep in mind it doesnt have to win any stereo competitions. Plus I really would like all the stereo components hidden from view so they are less likely to be stolen.

Re: INTERIOR
Kirby, Remember the fox mustang rear hatch is really shallow. a 10" would be really pushing it if it would fit at all. If you remember. The 82-86 had a 6x8 speaker on the sides of the rear that set on its side and took up most of that spot. If you are coming on Saturday we will take some measurements and see what we can come up with. I think a 8 on each side might be the way to go. I have another idea as well that might work but we would need to measure it out and see how it would fit. It would hide the speakers but the box would be visible.
David, Do the speakers need to be on the side or would a single smaller box running accross the behind the rear seats be ok also. I can explain it better by drawing it out and showing you what I have in mind but it would be covered in black carpet and it would not be a huge box but it would have a punch to it.

Re: INTERIOR
Bryan if its any help the rear of the fox mustangs is shallower than a 280. I have put boxes in both.. its amazing how shallow the fox is.

Re: INTERIOR
A box covered in matching black carpet running left to right just behind the back seats would be ok if we can make it stealthy enough.

Re: INTERIOR
whats the height between the hatch and the floor at the hatch opening?.... the 280 had plenty of room on the seat side... but was about 8 inches at the rear side (cause i thought about putting two 6x9's into the rear wall) but need another half inch to do it
if there is room to do it on the rear side... you would never see it..... but it would be alot easyer to do it on the seat side... you can do a bandpass type box with two 8's with a center port - carpeted in black... and nobody would know what it is....

Re: INTERIOR
I will show you on Saturday what I am talking about. I was going to build a box like this for the SHO but its obviously not happening now. I have the wood to build it. We need to come up with two 8" subs that can handle the power and not blow. I also have the black carpet already. Should be pretty easy to do it this way. Everything will be strait lines on it and it will be nearly invisible looking in the car. Especially if there is any sort of tint on the back window.

Re: INTERIOR
Someone go into the forum settings and figure out where the picture settings are and let it use larger photos. I think it is set to 800x600 and is not resizing. Bump it to at least 1024x768 and allow resizing. Then it should auto shrink the photo so we can see it all. snap to it boy.

Re: INTERIOR
Me and kirby, and brent may need to come by and take some measurements to see what we can do about the speakers. I have a 10" Sub that I bought at Best buy for like 40.00. The brand is like Dynest or something like that and only about a 8 months old . Sounded good in the Cobra with a weak walmart amp. If need be you can have it if no one has anything better. Its already in a homeade box but dont think it would fit or look good in the car so the sub can come out and put in something that we make.
