Knocking noise
I have a fairly loud knocking sound coming from the front of the car, hard to tell direction, but it only appears when I do a hard banking turn, left or right. That seems to initiation it...but it actually lasts a few seconds even after I straighten out. Maybe 10 seconds, then goes away. It seemed to occur fairly recently after I had Midas "fix" my front brakes (I had directional pads on backwards). At that point all I had was some ticking which went away. I'll probably go by there sometime and have them look but honestly, it's kinda hard to reproduce the sound doesn't do it all the time.
Just wondering if anyone else anything similar.

First off I'd never ever ever ever ever ever go to Midas with a Shelby GT500. Hope they undo the wrong.

Re: Knocking noise
I wonder if it's my slightly uneven rim. It might cause an "in and out" lateral movement. For whatever reason, it would seem to be exacerbated by turning the wheel.
Some guy says here can straighten out rims. I'll show him my wheels and see how long it takes him to change his mind. 100 bucks. As long as he doesn't hurt them.

Re: Knocking noise
The simplest answer is usually the right one..... You had it at Midas and now its making noise. My guess is midas may have not installed it correctly. Its not rocket science, but you can mess up anything nowadays. Murpheys law
Oh and no more Midas for brakes. You know more about your GT500 Brembo brakes then they do.
Good luck

Re: Knocking noise
I played around with the "knocking" sound tonight. Basically, it only occurs if I have the steering wheel turned any amount to the right. Going straight and turning left, no knock. Question is, what does turning right do. As far as brakes go, if it was a brake problem, why would turning the wheel even SLIGHTLY make a noise? Still investigating.
But also, went back to Goodyear and had them rebalance the front wheels. Still a major vibration above 50 mph. What could it possibly be? I'm about ready to bring it to Ford, but am afraid they'll see the TVS and say no warranty work. If I"m lucky they'll not notice.
One thing I could do, is take off my front wheels/rims...and put on a test set. But I just don't have a test set that I know is straight to do it with. Then I could find out if the vibration is coming from my wheels or not. Anyone in the OKC area have a couple front wheels we could throw on real quick :-)

Re: Knocking noise
with something knocking near the wheel you'll have a harder time because you have aftermarket wheels on there than because of the tvs.

I need to find a set of front wheels to swap out to isolated the problem. If someone near OKC is willing to help me out, it would be much appreciated! Wouldn't take too long.

Re: Knocking noise
Hi Chad. I might take you up on that offer. I'm currently working night shifts so it would have to be like after dinnertime. I feel the vibration the worst on very smooth roads like I-35 in Norman. So we if we can find a nice smooth road where we can go 60-80 mph, that should tell me if it's the wheels or not. Plus it would be nice to meet another GT500 owner I have not met any yet here in Norman.

Re: Knocking noise
I'm actually going back to Midas tomorrow to have the knocking/clicking issue fixed, it must be my brakes b/c when I apply then, the noise stops.
As for the vibration, I'm gonna try reversing side on my front wheels and see if that does anything. Thanks for asking!

Re: Knocking noise
go to court. even if you have to take off work. i made the mistake once of just paying the ticken later to find out if i would have gone to court they would have lessened the ticket points and wouldn't have raised my ins.

Re: Knocking noise
Go to court. Here in Tulsa you can go to the prosecutors office and ask what you can do to drop or lessen the charge so that it won't go on your license. If you've been a good boy up till now they will typically reduce the charge or ask you to plead no contest and do some driver class or community service.

Re: Knocking noise
Reckless driving is as bad as a DUI. You need to go talk to the prosecutors. Do this before your court date. If they won't deal with you then you better lawyer up.

Just did some reading on a reckless driving citation in Oklahoma. Read up on Aaron's law. Get an attorney for sure so they can plead reduced charges.

Re: Knocking noise
Good luck. Could have happened to any of us. Way too easy and quick for speed to push past speed limit with these cars. Heck I know I find myself taking an off ramp just so I can take the on ramp. I don't run with a radar detector although I have considered one lately but years without one and no tickets on account I watch it more closely and often think for me that is better than having one.
Between Hallett and Thunder Valley I will get my need for speed satisfied when it warms up that is.

Re: Knocking noise
No radar detector will prevent lidar from nailing you if they shoot you and no one else before you in range of your detector as you know. Was thinking about a laser jammer until I did my homework and learned they are illegal in OK.
Save it for the drag strip or the track as they will really let you exercise your car in the manner for which it was built. I autocross with a local Porsche club once a month except when too cold. Point is there are a number of different local venues to have fun and not worry about breaking speed limits. Mine is not a daily driver either though.

Like David said, "wreckless driving" is as bad as a DUI on paper. I would go to court and see if you can get it plead down. Show the midas receipt and explain what you were doing....Im sure you can get the charge lessened.

Re: Knocking noise
for what its worth i had a wreckless in edmond when i was about 19. i dont know what the cop popped me doing but when i saw his lights turn on i looked down and i was doing 140 in a 35 (dumb ass kid 1am no one around but some homo in a fast and furiouse honda on the bottle)
cop got me, gave me a wreckless..... i was told i would be at court and to be there early to talk to the city att. basically i plead no contest got a 6 month probation and a 50 dollar ticket. i think thats pretty much the norm for your first one.
heres the kicker. i dont remember the name or if its in effect yet but they are gettin pretty seriouse about wrekless and i know it involved loosing your lic. for a year. not sure what else.
the BS part of this is how do you prove a wreckless ticket? a cop could give you one for anything they want really, try fighting it. as long as the officer thinks you were wreckless then your F'ed....
anyway let me know how it turns out for you. definitly not worth selling the car. just know when and how to drive it.
