But everything I see for the 11-12 is that it went back to the old style:

May just be the reference images. Do the 11-12 GT500s use the same transmission as the 5.0s?

The GT500 uses a Tremec, the 5.0 uses a Chinese manufactured tranny. The shifter for the newer S197s uses arms that mount externally, not a ball dropped in the tranny anymore. Been designed this way since 2005

Yea the 05-10 all seem to be like that, but the 5.0 looks like it went back to the ball and socket.

I am planning on installing my MWG shifter, and my Ford Racing TVS this weekend! Got all the parts ready. Van lent me his pulley puller...and I went to the store and got some updated grinding bits to use to bore out the intake area to match the VMP oversized elbow. Plan on just stuffing the interior with rags and putting tape over it so no particles will get in there. Gonna be ultra-careful for sure. Once that is done, combine my 2.59 pulley and I will essentially have the VMP package....except I paid way less.

I'm nervous about uploading that tune...not that I don't trust Van and Lund, but I like to have control and this "black box tune" goes against my style! Nervous. But I found a ton of videos and pics on internet showing how to install all this stuff. Will probably take a whole day going slow and steady. Can't wait! now I just need to sell all those extra new tires I have LOL. What a pain. Someone make me an offer!

Once the tune is in just listen for detonation. Make sure the tune is for 91 octane not 93 that some have in their area. If you hear detonation, get out of it and call Van.

Judging by my and David Leonards tune, Lunds tunes tend to be on the safe side so you should be good my friend. Good luck

New supercharger or not? Hmm.... - Page 4 Empty Supercharger Engaged!

Post by Corepuncher 11/19/2011, 4:48 pm

A friend and I got it done last night.

I was a bit afraid to start it up after uploading the tune, which took forever and it came up with menu options I was not sure of...there were some ambiguous statements in there and I was not sure if it was referring to the stock tune or the Custom tune. I chose correctly in the end.

I started it up and it sounded normal, nice and smooth. Went out onto the streets, about midnight in the country. Got to the top of a long roadway. I didn't even attempt to hit it hard in 1st..i just went into second, then at about 3000 rpm floored it. holy crap! My tires spun as if I was at the top of 1st! Banged it into 3rd and hit it. Observed my boost gauge pegged at 15. Amazing acceleration...now THIS is what real boost is! It's like when you hit the mushroom playing mario kart. I think I even saw "lines" in my peripheral vision as if I was going through a tunnel.

I can't wait to try it out at the dragstrip. I"m gonna do some practicing launching though. Not sure if it would be better to fully dump the clutch at a low RPM is 1st...or start high RPM and feather it. At any rate, I probably need a set of drag radials/wheels.

Tim to go Corvette hunting!

Congrats Ryan! Tunnel vision is correct, I get it too when at full boost and tires are gripping at upper RPMs! Pretty awesome! You will need to learn to peddle the gas to limit the car from going out of control at times, but you will learn.

Congrats!!

Whats nice is it only goes nuts if you floor it and get that boost engaged. otherwise it drives normally.

I'm trying to figure out how to change tire size in tune. I went into "revs per mile" previously but it is not working. I'm not even sure the exact menu option to change it. I went to my tune, then "Adjust" and it showed Revs per mile as an option...it has the correct value for my tires "checked"...but speedo is off 5 mph too fast...and these are BIG tires. Hm?

I tried to "reupload" the tune. There is "Saved" and "Default" settings...I checked "Saved" and it supposedly had the correct tire size...725 revs per mile. Then I went into "Default"...Changed it TO 725...then tried to reupload tune It warned me "no changes detected...force upload?" so I did just to see. Seems like it might have worked, only off by 2 mph now rather than 5. shrug.

My escort passport has GPS in it which shows speed at all times. I might cross check with another GPS source, just to make sure, but GPS is pretty accurate usually.

I think it's ok. I would trust the revs per mile over the GPS

I find it amazing how quickly the car can respond to the throttle. There is no hesitation between just cruising along, then suddenly flooring it. Even with double the air and more fuel, the thing does not skip a beat. It accelerates as well as an electric car...instant and smooth.

Luckily, I just sold my 2 - 315's for 650 bucks! Mailing them to CA Monday. Got someone else about to buy my KDW2's. As such, I have already ordered my rear replacements...they are Pilot Super Sports 295/35R20. Should fit better than the 315's, which rub on fender 'cause they stick out. Plus, they will be 3 lbs lighter! Booyah!

New supercharger or not? Hmm.... - Page 4 Empty KDW2's for sale still...

Post by Corepuncher 11/22/2011, 2:50 pm

Actually speed still off 4-5 mph from GPS...that is clearly too much. Thought I had it fixed but I guess not. I'll mess with it again once my 295's come in the mail soon. I already sold my 315's! Sold them for 650 shipped.

BTW, my set of 4 KDW2's are still for sale...I am down to 700 for local pickup. That is really a crazy price for these tires. Two are brand new, rears are "like new" almost all tread. Saves over 400 bucks for the set. If you hear of anyone looking for tires direct them my way!
