Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
So I decided to start saving up for LT's but i don't want to pay for installation, heard it can be like 300 bucks, so I know it's tough but I heard with some jack stands and a cherry picker its not too tough. So do any of you guys have the tools to do it, All I have is a 56 piece mechanics socket screw set and a couple wrenches lol, my dad took any decent tools we had... I could pay whoever helped me, not much but for more of a thank you. I'm gonna try to have the money in the next month and a half.
Also nother question, do you guys recommend getting new gaskets? I mean they are only like 40 bucks but if the stock ones are just fine then I see that 40 bucks as a tank of gas...

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
Haha. Well, you'll definitely need a bit more than a small tool kit. Let's see.
First you'll need a new mid pipe to match your LT headers.
You will need new gaskets. They are not re useable.
Youll need a good jack and stands
Possibly a cherry picker.
Lots and lots of patience. Lol

IMO....If it was me Barrett.... I'd spend the $$ else where. LT are cool. I even won a set at the Shelby show a couple years ago. I ended up selling them instead of installing them.
Lots more bang for the buck mods out there.

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
But I was thinking, if I get em, I found some MAC ceramics w/ an O/R x pipe for like right at 700, so I'd need gaskets to. Then I could sell my BBK shortys and my current O/R x pipe for maybe like 300? I heard LT's get you like 20hp vs stock and i heard shortys dont really give much gain over stock. So wouldnt I be getting like atleast 15 extra horses?

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
they are definately a pain on the 2v's. no experience with a 3v but i would think they are just as bad. if you do get them though, i would recommend spending the extra $50 and get stage 8 locking header bolts as well. Well worth it because the factory studs/nuts are known for backing out once they have been broken loose.

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
3V's are a pain in the ass too, but i could definitely feel a hp difference and the sound made it all worth while if nothing else. i did my LT install back in october. i live out of state or i could help you. this is when its nice to have friends with previous experience. if youre really serious about doing it, im sure someone from the mustang community would step up and help you on the install.

id be up for helping. i know how to do it. it is a pain in the but though. be prepared for rapped knuckles

Im sure I would also be willing to help.
But... Like Paul said, you might have better options for $700 dollars. Anyone with a 3V wanna offer better options possibly?
Jared, how much were your cams?

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
my cams were used and only cost me 600 with phasers. a new set with phasers, bolts, and installation hardware would run around 900-1000 for a cam THAT REQUIRES PHASERS. if you want a better option for the money....
http://www.compperformancegroupstores.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CC&Product_Code=127200&Category_Code=FRD3VCKXFINSR
NSR cams would be around 800 for the cams and everything you need to install them.
personaly 700 seems high for longtubes...
personaly if i was going to spend 900-1k dollars id get my heads ported. but thats cause im pretty much out of cheap things to do to my car

Id pass on long tubes if it was me. I mean if I was building a HIGH HP build and wanted ever last drop then sure.
Barrett if your looking for 20hp, purchase some CMCV delete plates with tune for your car.
A lot cheaper than longtubes and will give you the same result...and takes about 30 min to install with minimal tools

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
I really want LT's everyone makes fun of me for having shorties :( kidding but I really do want them. What I was thinking is save up you know like 700, put the LT's on, call up brenspeed tell them i bought it used but i already have the tuner with a tune from them, see if i still get tune upgrades for free. if not pay the 75 bucks, then after the LT's sell my current shorties and x pipe and then use that money for cmcv. So I'd pay for the LT's and CMCV but the money for the CMCV's would come from my old stuff. So that'd give me the hp from the LT's (im guessing maybe 15rwhp or so, assuming I gained a just a little with the old ones) and the CMCV's, im guessing maybe 10rwhp. If i installed myself of course. So thats 700 for 25rwhp, that's not too bad in my mind, yeah there are cheaper mods out there but I already have most of them, ud pulleys, cai, etc.

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
you can get a good set of LT's and an offroad pipe for about 700 if thats your budget. it opens the car up quite a bit. if youve seen a set of stock manifolds they are tiny and choke flow down so much and youre shorties arent really much of an improvement from that. everybody's got an opinion, but having them on my own car, i can tell you i think its a nice mod. plus its already done if you plan on doing other mods later that the restriction of an almost stock type setup would hurt.

i disagree. if Osama liked longtubes, he would make sure everyone had a set and they were all alike. he would also make sure the guys with more HP gave some to the guys with less HP.

Did you mean to say Osama or Obama? Either way...

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
Another thing to look at Barrett, is are the $700 headers designed for an automatic? Because the ones for a manual won't fit your fat transmission. Mike and I were looking at that today, and the cheapest set for an automatic we could find were like $1300... I can save some of that cost, but still...
I would be up for helping though...

He has a 5 speed and it also wouldnt matter if he had an Auto, they would fit....They dont make Automatic specific Longtubes for our cars.

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
Does ceramic really get me much gain over stainless?
I was looking at these, I wanna purchase from brenspeed so I get the free tunes.
http://www.brenspeed.com/20546.html
^For an xpipe I was just gonna get the one in the drop down box. That's where I was getting my 700 buck price on the setup.
Do xpipes differ in performance other than cats, high flow cats, and no cats? Or are certain xpipes better than others?

Re: Anyone able to help me install LT Headers?
Ceramic will keep the temps down and be beneficial, but for your overall goal of a daily driver, its not a must have.
No cats will definitely be the most free flowing, but if you can find a set of high flow cats you would remain "legal" and still get the benefit of exhaust flow.
Having cats tends to add to the price and quite down the exhaust. If your wanting LOUD then go "no cats" or off road X.
To answer your last question...X pipes are X pipes....the difference is in the steel used and the ease and reliable fitment when mating the exhaust pipes. Exhaust leaks will turn that smile into a frown quick as they are sometimes hard to get rid of with poor exhaust.

I think I remember the ebay listing saying that this cars not legal and not to buy it if you live in a state with required emissions testing. But ill go check. Also do longtubes add much more sound over my shorties? My mom said I can't go any louder because of my neighbors...
EDIT: Yep no cats on there.
