I finally did it!!!
I worked my way up and persistance paid off. I had to trade my 08 bullitt and stroked foxbody which I will always miss but... I finally own a gt500.
2007 15000 miles and already tuned upper and lower pullies with full exhaust.
I came here because I have a few questions...
How can I fix this wheel hop, When this thing hooks up I feel like superman but when the wheels start hopping its gets really ugly
Has anyone tried any suspension set ups that help the wheel hop?

Re: I finally did it!!!
Wow thats great Matt! These cars are a blast!
Wheel hop is definitely a problem with these cars. 80% of the problem is fixed with an adjustable upper control arm and adjusting the pinion angle. I would also suggest adding fixed non-adjustable lower control arms.
J&M and BMR make some great suspension products.
I too have the same issue as yourself and have been researching the solution. Below are the products I will be going with.
Adjustable upper control arm

Lower Control Arms
http://www.bmrsuspension.com/?page=products&productid=759
Roush claims to have an anti wheel hop kit that includes replacing the bracket. A lot of people claim this works great. Its just another alternative.
http://www.purespeedmotorsports.com/roush-mustang-wheel-hop-reduction-kit-2005-2010.html
Some just start with lower control arms and that seems to help, some say just an upper control arm is the answer, some say all you need is the Roush kit. I dont think anyone has agreed on one setup that has cured it. But I will say different combinations work just fine.
Google: GT500 wheel hop and you will see a ton of different threads across many forums discussing the subject.
Good luck in your search and congratulations on your new ride! Hope to see it in person this year!

Re: I finally did it!!!
I am leaning towards the upper control arm being the culprit, I will be changing that first to see if the wheel hop subsides. I am betting it does.

Like Jarrod said. Control arms will fix the hop. Very cool BTW on the trade. Can't wait to see it in person!

Jarrod, drive my Roush and see what you think about the setup. I don't experience wheel hop.

Same here, I have never experienced wheel hop other than at the drag strip.
I throw drag radials on the car and VHT is introduced to the tires at the drag strip and WHAM, a dentist visit is needed. As soon as the tires semi grip deflection starts to occur and sends the rear end into a frenzy, but only at TRP

This was the first time I had the car at the strip
First run was a 12.07 @ 120.34 MPH (I hit 121-122mph later that night, but ET dropped as wheel hop got worse)
Definitely has a lot left in her with the right tires. Hoping for mid 11's this year.

Re: I finally did it!!!
Wheel hop is caused by the flex in the soft durometer bushings the factory uses to control NVH. As they flex they change your pinion angle and the load unload cycle starts. I have used Metco on several and my customers really seem to like it. Yes they do transmit a bit more noise to the chassis but no more than any of the others out there. Metco has been making lower control arms since the mid eighties when we all used Southside bars, that would absolutely destroy torque boxes and mounts. I even have one of the original prototype sets on my GN. Little history for ya...
Re: I finally did it!!!
You're showing your age Mike!!! what are these southside bars you speak of?...hehe Do they serve hard liquor?
I will look into Metco, did not realize they have been in business that long. thanks for the info sir.

Re: I finally did it!!!
Early cars were notorious for wheel hop, went with hr springs upper and lower metco control arms, I make decent power and wheel hop is a thing of the past

I know, I'm old. But I,m still younger than Donley. Southside Machine Traction Bars, they had steel bushings and instant center relocators. They worked good, but man they were harsh. Rick you car doesn't make decent power... It s a turd.
