Clutch? Empty Clutch?

Post by Corepuncher 10/14/2011, 12:49 pm

Some guy is selling a Mcleod RXT twin disc clutch for 700, less than 500 miles on it. Should I snag it? He says the pedal pushes down much easier, and I always hear about our clutches going out.

I wouldn't, just drive yours to it goes bad. The newer clutches haven't had the same problems as the 07-09 ones.

He said he'd drop it to $600 for me. Says the clutch pedal is so soft, that he thought it was broken when he first installed it. I kinda like the idea of softer clutch pedal, makes for nicer city driving. Decisions. I could then keep my stock one as a spare. Thanks for the input David. Seems like I"m playing "musical car parts" lately! Each time I buy a different part, it shuffles the deck all over again LOL.

600 bucks for a 1300 dollar part just seems like such a good deal. I'll have to think about it. Thanks all.

Lol. Ok, so now this guys says he will do the clutch, new slave cylinder (180 dollar part), AND an SCT X3 tuner for 700 bucks. I was gonna do a pulley and tune anyway, and the tuner new is about 250, so in essence, I am getting this clutch for 450, which lists for 1300. Umm....I cannot resist. I'll just have to save my stock clutch as a spare for when the McLeod one goes out. But isn't this a seriously good deal? 481 miles on the clutch (and throttle body I already bought). I feel like Mr. Haney from Green Acres I"m dealing so much haha.

IMO... It's a good deal if you need a clutch... but you don't. Ya know?

I was under the impression that stock clutches tend to go out after a couple years. If that is the case, seems I should get this one. Plus I'll get my tuner. But I see where you are coming from.

If youre at the drag strip every weekend, then yes I can see the clutch being worn out quickly. OR if you are running some serious POWER, but your stocker should handle what you are throwing at it for now.

If there is one deal today, logic tells you there will be one tomorrow....

Your choice sir.

Ok everyone, please queue the laughter...I bought it all. hammer

I figured since I was gonna buy the tuner anyway, that's a good 200 bucks I would have spent. So 700-200 = 500. I paid 500 bucks for a 1300 dollar clutch that has seen very little use. I mainly did it to have two clutches for when one wears out, and, I love how this one will push in so much easier. Anyone else on here have the Mcleod clutch? I also bought his Cobra Jet throttle body...a beautiful and functional piece, over 650 new, for 400 shipped.

Now all I have left is pulley and tune which is about 475 (no tuner needed now), and my carbon fiber parts. I need to find more stuff to sell on ebay!!!! Seriously, I sell a lot of crap on there. In case you are wondering where I"ve been getting all this spending money, it's selling Garbage Pail Kids cards. LOL. Who would have thought that those cards from 1985 (1st series only ) would be such a hot commodity!

Hopefully my "puny" pulley and tuned car will make it yawn. I think I drive a bit hard on my clutch anyhow. I figured if I keep my car for many years like I intend to, I"ll need to put another in.

Hey guess what? I brought my new wheels in to be balanced because i was feeling a vibration on highway. They accidentally caused a "bulge" in both front tires, where the sidewall started coming apart! So, I get two brand new front tires. Yay. I wish it was rear though, I wanted to upgrade to 315's lol. Also wish I could change brands, these are LOUD tires.

Btw, I got a idler pulley I will sell for 80 bucks since your gonna piece together everything. Pretty sure its a metco idler that you will have to have to run 2.6 pulley.
