Clutch
So I think mine is givin up the gusto. Last couple times I've taken her out 4th gear and up higher speeds as soon as I get boost she revs up to about 3500 rpm will start to grab and then we are off. Happened a couple times and I didn't realize what was going on. Today I started paying attention. Funny thing is when I tried (not really soo hard) it grabbed and went. Who knows.
Anyone have any exp. With trying to get a dealer to warrentee it due to the known problem and the TSBs with the clutch and flywheel (mine has not been swapped to the newer one). I think that's a long shot but ill try it
Also any aftermarket set ups that anyone can suggest would be appreciated. Also aftermarket flywheels since I don't have the newer version
Thanks
Vandy

Re: Clutch
You can try the TSB route, but if your car has any power mods they will balk saying it caused the failure.I have installed several McCleod RXT twin discs and I like them.Pedal feel is much lighter, comes with a new flywheel.But...they are not cheap.I would also replace the slave cylinder as they have issues also.McCleod built their clutch around the stock slave.Your looking at about 1400.00 in parts and 4 hours labor.

Hey Vandy,
Whatever your decision on the clutch, give Mike (aka Cobradoc) a call at Pennicle...he should be able to help you out! Got to hang out with Mike a little Friday at the drag strip (he also fried his clutch in his terminator ) very nice guy and very helpful.
And stay away from Spec ....have not heard good things

Re: Clutch
Car is stock down to the tires and tune. That's why I was thinking the tsb might be a way to go. Free is nice but I'd almost rather install what's going to work longer than the 25k miles that a stock system has worked

Vandy you are missing out on the pulley, CAI and tune thrill!! Its the way the car should have come from the factory IMO. Completely different car and fun factor.
As for the clutch...Free is free...might try and get it warrantied first, if not then go for the McCleod?

Re: Clutch
Possible race at an airshow on the runway with maybe a vintage war plane, maybe a T-6. Details are coming together. Have several aircraft that have givin the ok. Right now we r looking for FAA approval to have them on the ramp together. I was asked todo it but the wife doesn't know about it yet. Not sure what her reaction will be. Not sure if the car wil be up to it. Going to be in october I believe

Re: Clutch
Rxt or ram, both good! Doubt your gonna get the tsb to fly, has to have a few other symptoms than just a slipping clutch in 4th. Just man up for the 1400 dollar clutch! ;)

Re: Clutch
Vandy, the runway thing with a GT500 has been done already....pretty cool. It was a 2010 Shelby though...not sure if mods were done or if it was just a factory ride.

Re: Clutch
Its just a favor to a buddy that's one of the coordinators of this air show. He hit me up this afternoon. Not sure how or if it will work out. We will see. Would be fun either way

Re: Clutch
Air show is in shawnee. As soon as I was in I got the boot. They gotta 250 mph rail so I'm out lol. Oh well
So riddle me this. I took the car for breakfast this morning. Flogged the hell outta her and didn't miss a beat. If a clutch is slipping I'd think it would be worse at slower speeds than rolling the throttle at high speed/high gear?

Re: Clutch
Romping at slow speeds = tire spin.No load on clutch.Romping at highway speed. Loads the clutch.

Re: Clutch
Well I got off the phone with Joe Cooper ford. The rumor he's tellin me is they will cover 100% of the repairs with the tsb. Said unless the car has a lot of abuse we will be good. I guess they have fixed some that were just warn due to driver error so next week she's going under the knife

Re: Clutch
well i talked to the service rep at copper and was told all is good bring her down. said they had delt with the issue several times and they were familliar with the issues.
i took it to them yesterday, same story, all is good we will have it back to you in a couple days. again i get a call this morning, hey everythings on track, parts are special order and will be here tomorrow morning, the car will be back to you tomorrow night. then about an hour ago i get a call saying his boss declined it and said that it wasnt covered under the tsb due to it being a clutch issue not a tranny issue.
really? so the "clutch drag tsb" doesnt cover the clutch draggin and becoming warn? hmm.
so im waiting on his boss to call me and let me know whats going on.....ill update soon

Re: Clutch
Something sounds a miss, I would deal with these people in person and have the TSB in hand. Believe it or not the public is sometimes more informed than the service techs....... unfortunately.
Maybe you need to hold their hand through this.

Re: Clutch
Telling ya, if it doesn't present the 3-4 characteristics that they want to see it won't be covered. Just cause clutch is slipping doesn't mean it's part of the tsb. These clutches are on or off, not made to slip and ride out like single disk clutches. If you drive them like a single disk it won't last 10k. Not saying it's vandys fault but we don't know how the other owner drove it. If ford inspects the clutch and finds it was normal wear and tear, guess who eats the 2-3 grand bill, the dealership. Hope you get it worked out, but if they said it's not covered your gonna have hard time changing their minds.

Re: Clutch
Sounds like a plan to me. My major push on the flywheel is in my garage u can hear the clutch draggin the fly wheel when the clutch is engaged. Hell I dunno. If they have a defective part they should fix it imo.

Re: Clutch
found the humor in this from teamshelby a guy was responding to my first post with cooper fords first comments to me
When I saw this post, I told a coworker of mine who is having a slipping clutch problem. He called the dealer you mentioned. I am assuming at the same time they were giving you grief. They said don’t bring it in; they do not want to touch it. So much for Joe Cooper Ford.

I think they all do this don't they? Is it the hissing sound coming from underneath the car when you release the clutch. Every 07-09 gt500 I've driven makes this sound. Maybe its a different sound we are both hearing / describing
