Clutch advice Empty Clutch advice

Post by joe0291 6/8/2011, 8:54 pm

I need some advice on what clutch I should get. I recently installed a Roush supercharger on my '05 GT and with just over 60,000 miles on it my stock clutch is slipping at higher RPM's once it warms up. I'm sitting at about 450 hp at the flywheel. Other than that the only other mod that might matter for this is I do have 3:73 gears. Done some google'n and I've read some threads from various websites on this topic and there are many different opinions about this. So I'm asking you folks. Fidanza, Spec, Ram, Centerforce, Exedy.... ? I've read some good and some bad about most of them. But it does seem like I did see more positive things said about Exedy than others. What do you guys think? I'm not a hard-core drag racer. Actually rarely drag race. Mostly just play around on the street. I do plan on doing some autocross in the future but mostly the car is just driven on the street.

When I did my research for my cobra I had it narrowed down to the Centerforce and the McLeod. The McLeod was a little pricey, but from what I heard, the best thing to make it the most drivable. The centerforce was next on my list and probably the most likely winner due to the price. Good reviews, just a few complaints as to the chatter during the break in period. I have not yet upgraded the clutch and base this solely on my research

Overall, I think you will be happy with any of them over stock, just find the one that best fits your application. Where do you do most of your driving in the car? If you spend a lot of time sitting in traffic, you will want one that has a softer feel for comfort, yet designed for performance. If you do any racing also look to see which one performs the best in those situations. Each on is different depending on if you are doing drag racing or motorcross. Biggest difference there would be the corresponding flywheel.

mcleod is from what i've seen the best choice if you can afford it. i personally have a spec 3+ right now and have heard of issues with every other version of the spec clutches. i'll go with a mcleod next time around though, high price or not
