My Revan Racing/Shelby Dual Pass/Dual Fan Heat Exchanger arrives Tuesday!
With the latest install of my Pulley and Tune I have found that heat soak is more and more apparent. I felt the car pulling timing last weekend when I made a few quick pulls on an empty road. Not the best feeling!
Well all that should go away next week with the addition of the New Heat Exchanger. I had been debating back and forth on going with the AFCO or C&R....C&R being the more expensive choice....after much research I found overwhelmingly that the C&R/Shelby is the best on the market. I gave a call to Van at Revan Racing (developer of the H/E) and he hooked me up!!! Couldnt be happier.
Here is a quick pick of what is on its way.
Here is a quick summary of the function of the H/E
"Ford GT500 Dual Pass / Dual Puller Fan Air To Water Heat Exchangers remove maximum heat from the intake side air. Dropping inlet temps as much as 50 degs. Racers have told us that they are getting noticeable gains in all areas with the cooler air. A huge advantage in high rpm settings and at the track.
US Made from Shelby for road racers, strip and street. Beautiful Aluminum finish, made to the highest tolerances with compact twin fans. Easy installation with instructions."
Here is also part of a debate of the Afco vs C&R-Shelby H/E...this is a quote from Van himself:
"The biggest difference that I have always mentioned and discussed in different forums and threads is the core. With the C&R/Revan/Shelby products we use a proprietary core used exclusively in NASCAR and INDY Car.
Also, C&R makes all of the radiators for Ford Racing and makes 99% of the radiators used in NASCAR.
I will say this much, I know how much the AFCO costs to distributors. Businesses are driven by margin. If you don't like how much you are paying for a product and want something similar and can make it for less and make more money, you make that product. That is what makes America great. If my cores were less money I could be $75 less and be at the same price point. I like to tell my customers that the $75 is made up by a number of things.
1. Two Fan Wiring Harness Relays versus one with the AFCO
2. Core Design
3. Industry veteran welders (higher pay scale)
4. 16 Point visual and functional Inspection and Pressure test prior to release for shipment. Same process we do for every radiator we build for NASCAR and INDY Car.
I cannot comment on AFCO's inspection process but I am sure there is some inspection process.
Now I realize that not everybody races their car. But we were looking to develop something that could provide optimal cooling and efficiency. The cores we use are very different. Those that have seen the two side by side, as I have would note that there are core differences.
I've spent many hours in the Shelby Test car in the passenger seat with the lead test driver on the interior road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We absolutely beat the crap out of the car in 140 degree on track temperatures. We were validating and testing the heat exchanger and the radiator for the 4.6 GT. We tested against an AFCO Radiator and the C&R Radiator. The testing results were such that Shelby made the decision to move forward with our product because of the ability of the radiator and namely the core.
I will also add that the fastest drag GT500's use a C&R / Revan / Shelby Heat Exchanger. These include Evolution, Lethal Performance and many individuals that hold specific records.
As for a comparison between the two, my offer still stands to do an open road course test. Heck, I'll even let the work be done without my even knowing which product is on my car just to eliminate any doubt. Actually with datalogging and monitoring RPM and pedal position you can see consistency."

Do you still have the stock heat exchanger Mike? If so, from what Ive read its a night and day difference. Not sure when the next tech day is going to be, but I would like to tackle this maybe next weekend if a few are free.
The UPS tracker says its ahead of schedule today.....going to be here MONDAY!
From what ive read the install is pretty straight forward, its the wiring that gets a few people. I dont have an electrical background, but can follow instructions extremely well and understand current and resistance to a certain degree.
Thanks for the help Mike definitely going to need an extra set of hands. David you free this next weekend sometime as well?
Plan on install being about 3-4 hrs. start to finish. Cant wait :)

Yes I still have the stock H/E but I would like to do this to the next car along with the radiator and thermostat. Just call me when you are ready.

Will do! Ive been thinking of going to the 170 thermostat as well.
Oh almost forgot....I also purchased a much larger factory look Intercooler Coolant Tank. Should also help with keeping the heat down! Definitely a worthwhile mod. Picked it up for $55.00 at Roush Performance where others are selling it from $99-120.

Might have to do some research on this, but I would assume the larger tank and thermostat would help without the aftermarket heat exchanger. In some of my research I have found that the fan needs to be adjusted in the tune to take full advantage of the thermostat if Im not mistaken.
The Thermostat isnt cheap either....$55.00

Me want heat exchanger and 3:73 gears before or at same time of pulley (and plugs). That's why the pulley has been gathering dust in my garage for 2 years!

Already priced and in the cart along with the gears. As soon as DL let's me know what pinion bearing kit I should get, I'll pull the trigger.
