Looking for opinions
So, as some of you may know I currently own a '95 v6. I am getting ready to graduate from college, and hopefully at this time I will have a bit more money to play with. The decision that I am currently weighing out is what to do as far as a car is concerned. I would like to do one of two things: either keep my current car and do a bunch of upgrades to it. It could stand a new paint job and some performance mods would be really nice considering the lack of power in the v6's of this vintage. The second option is to start saving for a 2011 v6. I feel that within a year or two the price on them would drop and my savings would increase enough to allow me to buy one. So what I cant decide is if i should keep my current car and fix it up real nice and make it faster, or to just leave it as is with no further mods and put all my extra money towards a newer, much more powerful Mustang. Any thoughts?

Re: Looking for opinions
If we are being honest here.....Dont do performance mods to a V6. Throwing money away that could be going towards a GT or other V8 car.
Not to take away from the 6ers...its a personal opinion. I myself would start looking for a GT. You can find some amazing deals on 2005+ GTs with mods already done for the kind of money you will spend on an 11 V6. Or look for a 2010 GT?

Re: Looking for opinions
I guess if it were me I'd look at it this way:
1. College grad should mean a decent job with a salary higher than what you can currently bring which should equate to more disposable income.
2. What are you looking for from your ride?
2a. Gas mileage?, Performance?, Resale value?, Chick magnet?, Daily driver?, Track car?, etc etc etc.
Narrow your field. Honestly if your commute is in the city a V6 really won't net you much more in terms of fuel economy. The V8 is going to be easier to modify for performance, and will also hold a higher resale value. If it were me and I was looking to upgrade from your current ride I'd be looking at the 05-09 GT's. Bang for your buck hands down winner in terms of mileage (I averaged 19-20 with 4.10 gears heavily modified in my 06), looks. Major chick magnet, easy to mod on a budget, reliable, comfortable, affordable, really dependable. This is where I would look. You would be happy

Re: Looking for opinions
To answer your question I am looking for something that will mainly be a great looking car that is fun to play with on the street. I dont really plan on running it on the track at all. Gas mileage tbh is a perk, but not a deciding factor. I kinda like your idea of the 2010 gt b/c they seem like they might be in lower demand due to the added hp of the 2011 but they are still the same body style and would have about the same hp as a 2011 v6. As for buying something with mods already done to it, thats fine with performance mods, but with aesthetic type things I would almost rather get it done myself just to avoid distasteful mods.

Re: Looking for opinions
Isaac, don't listen to these haters... V6 is the way to go! LOL
If you had an 01-04, I'd say stick with the six as there is a ton you can do to get up in the range without the additional costs. I assume your car is paid off, and spending $15k+ on a car with around 150hp is not a good dollar/power ratio IMO.
What is the mileage on your car? Stick or Auto? Honestly, I got a lot of hate when I got my V6, but I could've gotten a GT, just chose not to. There are too many around, and I wanted to be different. Besides, the real joys comes when you smoke a GT, and when he asks you to pop the hood he sees you have a 6er.
Best Mod List I know for a V6 that will net you 400hp for under 3 grand:
- MAC LongTube Headers and H-Pipe - $300
- Magnaflow Dual Exhaust - $400
- 3.73 Gears and T-Lok - $200
- 03/04 Cobra M112 Set-up - $1500
- Forged internal rebuild/4.2L Stroker - $1000
The only thing standing in your way of a great build is your single-port motor. If I were you, I'd spend an extra $300 and pick up an 01-04 Motor, as it will net you 60hp right from the get-go. Then rebuild it with performance parts. M112s are getting cheaper with Cobra guys upgrading their superchargers more and more, so you can find them for $150, then get an adapter and all supporting mods and you are over 300hp with just a blower on a stock motor.
I'm readily available if you need any help with the 6. They really are a great platform, and a lot easier to work on than the mod motors the GTs use...

Re: Looking for opinions
I would buy a blue and white gt that will save you lots of money.Comes with all the factory stuff and cheaper than a v6.

Re: Looking for opinions
Lol see I had some of the same thoughts as you, and if the car were in perfect cosmetic condition I would be very very tempted to do something along the lines if what you just said, but as I said before it really needs a good paint job which would probably run about as much as the performance mods, which granted is still a hell of a lot cheaper than a newer GT.
But, to answer your question the car is a 5-speed and has around 104k on it atm so it pretty low mileage for the year. And when I bought it I was in the same boat as you: I could have got a GT but chose not to. My reason however was that I was 17 at the time and couldn't afford to pay 2k a year in insurance lol. That being said the car does have a lot if sentimental value to being my first car and all. But yeah like I said I can't decide.

Re: Looking for opinions
Isaac,
The difference comes when you start modding a GT vs a V6 plain and simple. Having a sleeper v6 just doesnt do it for me. I need that V8 muscle sound....have you heard the 99-04 GTs with exhaust? love it! You just cant get that with a V6. TORQUE is another....yes the 2011 V6s have 300 HP like the 05-09 BUT they are lacking a great amount of power under the curve, which equates to the 6er being left behind from a dig or at a light.
There is something to say about having a fast V6, but the majority of car guys dont go that route...they want the sound, the grunt, the torque, and potential of a V8. Slap just a supercharger kit on a 2005-2010 GT (no other mods) and you are looking at 550HP at the flywheel...450-475 rwhp safely. No forging the motor, no rebuild needed.
Its all about preference, but if I was looking to be smart with my money....because eventially you will need to sell the car I would get the GT.
Not a huge market for modded V6 mustangs.....especially a '95... ya know?
I promise you....get a GT from 2001-2010 GT and you will never look back.
My 2 cents and opinion of course

Re: Looking for opinions
J-Rod and Dave-O are correct. I think if you spend all that time and $$ on the V6 you just won't be happy. To get the 6 to really perform, especially the 3.8... you have to way beyond bolt ons. You pretty much have to boost the crap out of it, which means beefing up the bottom end, then the tranny will have to beefed up to handle the power... and so on and so on... Pretty soon you have a $50k V6.
For the the time and money, go with the GT.
Of course this is my opinion.

I agree with the ones who say go with a used GT! More specifically, I suggest finding a nice, near bone-stock '05 GT in a unique color with less than 15K miles on it. Matter of fact, I happen to know where you could find such a treasure...

I will say,the vistia blue is not quit as flashy as the mineral grey, but the supercharger helps even it out.

lol, I wont be in the market to buy a car for quite a bit yet still, but just to settle the dispute I am a huge fan of blue and white stripes And imo a color that really fits in the "bad idea" ford colors are the 96 mustangs that came in some shade of plum looking purple color.

I really dont want to buy something off ebay sight unseen, but don't get me wrong, I get the point that you are trying to make, and I think it is an excellent one. It would be fun to buy a really new mustang, but it would be much easier on the pocket book to get one a few years older and it would still be a very nice car.
