This has never happened before.......
I was driving home tonight at a normal pace, not doing anything crazy, and all of a sudden my car lost power for about 5 seconds, sputtered a little bit, and then was fine. Can anyone give me some insight as to what I need to do? I never had this problem before so not sure if it has to do with the mods or tune that was done last weekend.

Re: This has never happened before.......
Strange. Not sure could be the battery or alternator. Some others have had similar problems and the battery was the culprit. These cars have had some issues with the battery and alternator. Doubt it has anything to do with the tune. In light of Jarrod and Justins recent problem with the gasoline they purchased you might also think about where you last got fuel.
Can you give a little more information of the situation.
How long had the car been on before problem?
Did you lose all power including engine and electrical?
Was there any check engine lights?

Re: This has never happened before.......
The first thing that came to mind was gas, but I ran close to a full tank before this happened. I always get gas at Quiktrip. I was running errands around town so I had been stop and go for about an hour. I was driving home about 40mph, and then it all of a sudden bogged down big time. And I didnt get much response at all on the throttle and lost speed rapidly. I didnt lose complete power, electrical and lights still working as normal. I did not get any engine light or anything like that.

You might pop the hood and just give all the connections that go to the cold air kit a once over. Make sure somthing hasn't come loose. All you need is a flat screwdriver to re tighten if necessary.

It took about 7 seconds to recover back to normal, but I just don't want this to be an ongoing thing if I can help it.

Re: This has never happened before.......
Look at that. If that looks ok... dunno. Maybe you got a bit of bad gas and all is fine now. Hopefully! If it happens again, let us know. We'll be gladd to look at it to make sure all is good.

Ok, just checked the cai, everything seems fine, nothing loose. So...hopefully it won't happen again or is anything serious.

Doesn't sound serious. Just keep an eye and let us know if it does it again. If it was bad the car would have thrown a code and you would have a check engine light.

Re: This has never happened before.......
That sucks. Dont be fooled by quicktrip gas. They can also have bad gas. All of my trucks at work fill up at the QT at 41st and Garnett and we have had several vehicles with bad gas multiple times.

If it is bad fuel, and I continue to drive it...will it cause damage to my car?

Re: This has never happened before.......
The short answer is yes. It can cause problems IF indeed it's the fuel. Since it happened once, I wouldn't over react. Plus if something does happen, it's covered by QT.

Dont worry to much about it. Cars sometimes have a little hicup now and then when changing air temps, moisture from humidity. I just wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

Re: This has never happened before.......
Did everything get hooked back up to the MAF sensor on the CAI. Sounds like something in that might be unplugged or losse and need tightened. I did that on my 97 when I installed a CAI, forgot to plug in the MAF sensor and once I did that everything was fine.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying....
Just need to double check, something could not have been snapped in all the way. I trust that you guys did it and that all plugs were connected, but you never know. Just offering my suggestions of were to look. Still makes me think it was the battery.
Casi, how old is the car. If you are in the 3-4 year old range, the battery could be pushing the end of its life if its a factory battery.

Re: This has never happened before.......
Casi I have stopped getting gas a quicktrip. They run 10% Ethenol in their mixture including the 91 octane. Where are you located so we can direct you to a possibly alternate location?
I use and trust completely the Phillips 66 gas at the corner of 71st and Mingo. They do not add Ethenol to their 91octane or 87 octane. I have never had a problem there.
Honestly I wouldnt lose any sleep over this insident. I have had a few times my car has bogged for a second or two then released. Never happened again.

I'm just saying that we can do no wrong. Period. In fact, we thought we made a mistake once, but we're wrong.

I made a mistake once. It was in a 1970 or was it 1968. I think it was between a 1968 and a 70.
