Easy fix, troubleshooting ENTIRELY WRONG
[Disclaimer: This post is per Paul's request.]
Yep, I had an idiot moment today. Driving Matt home I noticed both the map/dome lights were on. I thought "Hmm, I don't remember turning those on". So I reach up and hit the buttons to turn them off. No dice. So I go into panic mode and think "Oh man, I cleaned my engine bay today! I got water on the fuse box! Oh NO!!"
Yeah, that wasn't the problem. See, I had put Armor All on the dash (you can see where this is going) and later I noticed that the dimmer rocker was down too low. So I turned it back up. Too far, apparently.
After removing the dome light assembly and taking the bulbs out, Paul called me back. As soon as he said "dimmer switch" (DO'H!) it clicked. Reassembled the dome light housing -- everything OK now. Youch.
Go ahead -- I can take it.

That's all right I pulled an ignition switch and pto clutch on a mower only to realize the no start was because the brake was not on.

Nice! Atleast you didn't take it to the stealership and pay $75 for them to diagnose it and tell you what it was...

It's all good. If we don't learn from our (and others') mistakes, then we're not learning.
