2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
Ok guys and gals let's talk about the newest pony to grace uncle henrys barn. I'd like to hear what everyones thoughts are on the pros and cons of this new car as well as what your opinions are on the best all around Mustang to date? Let's include aftermarket cars such as Roush, Saleen, Steeda, and Shelby. Bang for the buck, straight line performance, road course etc etc. Let's have a open discussion about what started this movement and where it's been over the years. Let's also talk about where everyone thinks it's headed in the future.

Re: 2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
I see nothing but positives ahead for Mustang. The 2011 GT is going to be spectacular, and I predict Ford will improve on that in 2012. I expect to see some wonderful special edition Mustangs within the next few years, including but not limited to, a Boss; a Mach I; and perhaps even another Bullitt. Not to mention the rumored twin-turbo 5.0L in an upcoming GT500, and what all the aforementioned aftermarket tuners/manufacturers might come up with, and you've got the makings for a very interesting next few years in the muscle car wars!

Re: 2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
For performance, I have to go with the terminator. The termi reminds me of the Boss429. Nothing special as far as looks, but all out performance under the hood and everyone knew what it was and respected what it could do. As far as out of the box performance, nothing comes close especially when you consider price. Not only that, everything was done right: forged bottom end, 6-speed and IRS.
For Interior, I would go with the current s197. Much nicer and more plush than any previous mustang.

Actually, I would like to open my garage door and see a a 1970 Shelby GT500 sitting next to a 1970 Boss 429.
But that's just me......

while those vehicles are more appealing, the straight line and suspension performance are no where near what the new cars are. I would not take a terminator over something like that either, but performance-wise they are better. IMO

Re: 2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
I have always had a place in my heart for a 429. To me that would be the ultimate mustang to own. Not for the performance it has, but for the performance it had. In its time it was a brute. But with the price you have to pay to get one, I doubt I will ever be able to own one.
What would be really cool is if chevy would wisen up and build some tribute cars as well. Would love to see a new bodystyle Yenko Camaro running around. Although knowing GM, if they did do it, the would probably screw it up and put a V-6 in it or something crazy like that.

This is Government motors we are talking about here. Obama would probably make them all Hybrids.
Yes, today's cars are much more trouble free than yesteryear's muscle cars and they run better, but the sheer seat of the pants feel of those old cars. As far as the newer cars, I have what I want, but I am getting a twinkle in my eye for what's comming down the pike for the Coyote GT 500....

Re: 2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
I see only good things ahead as well. I think the only real thing missing and I'm sure it will at least be an option shortly is the IRS. I think the Mustang will then be in a different class. A better one.
I agree with Jerry in regards to most of the things he said of the Termi. Great car but, the platform is outdated. Driving a S197 and an SN95 there is no comparison. Everything on the S197 platform just feels so much more stable, tighter and more balanced. Some of this is no doubt the way the driver is positioned. But they really did a bang up job on that platform.
Love the termi and Jerry's right... bang for the buck, it wins. AND! It's holding it value to boot. But for driving characteristics... s197.

I agree! I just envision Chevrolet coming out with a new Camaro SS: 167HP electric hybrid that sounds like a hand mixer off the line!

Re: 2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
I'm just siked about the new 302 comming out and the specs on it, including the 6 speed trannies.Especially the old names are coming back; Boss, March 1, Cobra Jet ??? Anyone catch what size diff they going with? 8.8" ?
I still love the s197 body and the fox body coupes. SN95 Saleen but in a convertible. I've never driven any thing over 350 hp except for that one run down the 1/4 mile in a 550 hp s197. I thank that guy for letting have that chance. woo hoo. Just so he could get his car pass tech.
The SVT did a really nice job on the terminators engine block rotating assembly. Kudos to them.
I'm not much of a tech guy but most of my mustang education comes from fanatics like everyone here, from what I read from time to time and from actually working on my mustangs at the time.

Re: 2011 Mustang VS. All previous years.
For me I think the Mustang can be summed up into a few of the models that changed a generation.
1. 1964 1/2 Mustang
Obviously this one started the whole thing off
2. 1970 Boss 429 Fastback
This is in my humble opinion the ipitome of a muscle car and was the best of the 70's
3. 1986 SVO
This car was on the cutting edge for its time and I believe launched the powers that be at Ford to begin to think again about performance. Even though this car was only like 200 HP it was done with a 4 banger for cryin out loud!
4. 1990 LX 5.0 Coupe
These little beasts were responsible for slaying many a brand X of their day. I can't tell you how many vettes I smoked at the track with my little coupes over the years.
5. 1993 Mustang Cobra
This brought back to life a name that hadn't been seen for nearly two decades. Cobra. Without it we may have never seen the 540 HP versions that we have today. Which coincidentally can be bought right from your dealer!
6. 1995 Mustang Cobra R
This car would be one I would like in my stable since its one of the last pushrod motors and its a 351 5.8L which could carve up the road course like no ones business in the mid 90's
7. 2003 Mustang Cobra "Terminator"
Seriously one of the best designed all around performers of its day. Still today the Terminator is one of those Mustangs thats hard to beat in factory trim. With all the right parts to take it well beyond the power output it had from the factory without skipping a beat.
8. 2005 Mustang GT
New and fresh design with a throwback to its roots in the look department. The chassis and overall design has to be one of the best of all time. The modular engine running in N/A trim boasting 300 HP and capable of taking out just about any other Mustang previous at the drag strip or on the road course, this one has to be on the list.
9. 2007 Mustang GT500
Bringing back the name of Shelby to the Mustang fold in 2007 and giving us a car capable of awe inspiring performance and great looks in one package with the most powerful production Mustang yet!
10. I think this spot will belong to the new 2011 model which will re introduce the beloved 5.0 although its not a pushrod car, there are so many great memories for mustang enthusiasts from the five oh name itself. It would seem that Ford has resurected an icon and is making strides to coin this one as one of the all time best in the GT platform. I can't wait to see what else is in the future!
