Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
Hmmmm, the future of our beloved 'Stang could be brighter than first imagined. I had a friend in college who had a warmed-over '86 SVO and man when the boost came on it got insane! Of course that was in the svelt Fox-chassis and it did not have the sweet rumble of our fourth-order V8's, but it was cool!

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
Looks interesting. I just wish we could get some solid leads on the new engines and chassis. I'm getting a bit dis-enchanted with all the rumors. Enough already tell me what it has and how much it costs. If its too much I'm getting a Procharger and bulilding a motor for the one I have and let her damn well eat.

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
Ok, answer me this - 300 HP takes X amount of fuel to properly 'fuel' the 300 HP, whether it comes from a v8, or a turbo-4, or a super-stout 6, or whatever else. Sure, you can get more MPG on that 300 HP from one or the other, but you're GOING to sacrifice something (generally that'll be torque for the 4's or 6's)
Would I be cool with a turbo-4 or turbo-6 again in a mustang? Well hell yeah! Why not?! BUT! You need to KNOW both the HP and TQ ratings of the engines, as well as the car's overall weights, to make the best decision.
Oh, and UGH! Reading through that link you posted - painful! - having to read through all of the absolutely just completely ILL informed opinions out there, it was painful.

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
Well the 4 banger would come in a little bit lighter than the current V8 perhaps 500 lbs? Lighter engine/chassis. But I agree on the torque thing. I have to have the torque. If I just wanted HP I would buy a turbo ricer. I guess all the waiting better be worth it.

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
got it from TMS. they are talking about it... so i snatched the pic. it could be photoshopped, but idkk. the turbo button is a little weird. and it looks like the right side of the wheel is longer than the left.

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
Wish they would make an Ecoboost V-8 instead of a V-6. We have all seen what the terminators can do if you take off the Supercharger and slap on a few turbos. Just seems like a better choice in my book, but hey, I don't get paid to make those decisions.

I wish there was a checklist that I could go to my dealer and check the items that I want and have it built to my specs.
5.4L check
Twin turbo check
6 speed Tranny check
373 gears check
handling pack check

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
Actually, Ford and the others have come a long as far as options go. It use to be you bought a Mustang or another vehicle and you bought one of three packages. the basic package might be number 147, then for an option they had package 148, and an even harder to find and fully loaded 148 B. At least now you can some what mix and match some of the options and interior colors. But I do agree, you should be able to pick performance packages from the factory, and have it delivered to you. I guess thats what keeps Rousch, Saleen and Shelby in business, making the cars that the everybody else wants.

You must not be a fan of the late '60's/early 70's cars (Mustangs included). You used to be able to pick from a PLETHORA of engine/interior/exterior packages (notice I said plethora of packages, including engine packages - no longer just the v-6/gt/gt-500!) You USED to be able to pick what engine you wanted in your car, along with the interior/exterior (that being base-model, GT, or GT-500-type exterior modifying). Now, you get a v-6, GT, or GT-500, everything else (aside from some crap-tastic interior choices) is decided for you.
Now, I'm NOT opposed to engine choices. Heck, I'm all for it! My point is - if it's being done truly for MPG reasons, it's silly to want to get a turbo-4 with 300HP, versus a V-8 making 300HP. Take the same 20 gallons of fuel, drive them the same way (getting up to 60 MPH at the same rate, driving in town at 40, etc), and you're going to end up with basically the same MPG - around 18 city/26 highway for a Mustang, given the same weight. Now, if you shed considerable (and 500 lbs is CONSIDERABLE!) weight, then yes, you're going to improve MPG, power/weight ratios, etc., and everything is going to behave better. But if you compare apples-to-apples, X-weight will take Y-energy to move it to Z-speed.
For me, I'm going to wait out these in-stable fuel prices. I'm not going to change a thing (meaning, I'll keep the cars I have), and wait for things to come back to stability and reason [current oil/natural gas (and as a result of that, gasoline/deisel) prices are way-over inflated, and the prices WILL normalize over the next 8 months, bank on it.]
Something we're going to start seeing (already are, going to get more prevelant in the near future) is more push for natural gas. We've an abundance of NGL in the US, and it's cheap as compared to crude. My step-dad used to run his truck on both gasoline and NGL (natural-gas-liquid), so it can be done, but it's not, right now, an efficient fuel to use. Enter the douche-bag called T-Boone Pickens.
T-bone owns 27% of ALL natural gas in the US, period. That's not a typ-o. He OWNS 27% of ALL natural gas reserves in the US. He's pushing HEAVILY for a change in the fuel used in autos to be NGL's instead of gasoline or deisel. He's also pushing for wind and solar power to be used for electricity production. Now, I'm 1000% FOR the use of renewables for ELECTRICITY production. Why the heck not! It's renewable, once built it's pretty much FREE (aside from the maintenance of the generators), and it frees up the dino-juice for the cars that are currently running around on the roads. But I do NOT see the need to try to re-invent the wheel (or in this case, the fuel for the wheel) when it comes to internal-combustion engines.
Move to close to 100% renewable for all electricity production, and leave the dino-juice for our cars. That change alone should keep our v-6's and v-8's on the roads for many centuries to come.

Found out to today that the 2010 Mustang GT will have a 5.0 TIVCT 32V V-8 in it, the motor is called the Coyote rated at 400 HP and 375 lb ft N/A.

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
hmmm so what does this mean in LAYMANS terms Greg? With that high of compression...will a supercharger still be of interest to mustang owners? Im sure the car would love nitrous.
Is the motor worth purchasing the car?

Re: 2010 Mustang Rumors and Fact
The Compression might hinder adding a SC. UNLESS they built the bottom end for it. Kinda sounds like that's the case with the beefy block. Hopefully they upgrade the rest of the bottomend.

I also have mine up for sale. Not going to advertise but if someone wants it its theirs for $25,000 no kidding. I think I will get one of the new ones when they come out if indeed they have a 400 HP 5.0 in them.
