Re: Question??
less code.... more content....
a web crawler wants to read your title... description... and content... it does not want to crawl through a bunch of codes looking for a few lines of content.....
at the same time you dont want to use just flat static pages (they are... well.. just boring)
try having an alternative site that users with flash are redirected to... or a framed site... also have one without frames that people are redirected to
its like looking at a real nice clock tower without seeing all the little gears inside that run it......
just dont get caught flooding your index pages with a bunch of crap either
as for the site... yeah if he is going to keep up with it its a decent price...

Re: Question??
using dreamweaver... or joomla... or the dreaded frontpage.... is like me using photoshop...
i'm just saying programs like that make it easy for people to design a webpage that have no clue what CSS or even HTML is....
I have no clue how to code..... but I can design a webpage with dreamweaver
I have no idea how to take a perfect photograph... but I can make one on photoshop
its not really cheating... more like lazy..

Re: Question??
you can but web crawlers see it as junk that doesnt pertain to the site (no content) and the more non content items on the site the lower the ranking will be
you could also just make a slideshow movie and upload it to youtube or google video and link it to play on your site....

Re: Question??
Since you're a graphics based business.. you really want you site to be cool and sexy. Most customers will judge your talents and thus decided to use you or not based on how your site looks. If your site looks like it was done by a fifth grader, they will think that's the type of product you put out.
Now there's the other side... those sites that use everything web gadget out there (long ass intros, music, etc) and as a result, the page takes a hour to load and annoys the customer.
You'll want a balance. People want information about your product not to be entertained so much. The look, feel and usability (easy to read font, well thought out global nav structure, etc) should be the key. The visual ascetics should be inherent.
Bottom line... Flash is fine in moderation. If need be you can force a crawl around it.

not yet...We are trading out work. He is wanting his truck wrapped. I showed him some websites I liked and what I wanted. Page is suppose to have flash and other stuff on it. He has been trying to talk me out of doing flash on the page for about a week now. He came by last Friday and said all we have left is to add the pictures up on the site and it's done. His truck wrap is going to cost $2800.00 and he is trying to tell me this is a $3000.00 site.
Man I'm in the wrong business!!
I should have read the rest before I spoke. 3K is probably about right if he is going to host it/watch it for a year. Watch out for hosting though. Dont let them take your domain. If you do you could have trouble getting it back easily. Keep your domain, and just create the host records for him. We have had web hosts hold domains hostage and/or let them expire.
How many hours has he put in to this? We build websites for some customers and have experience so I can probably give you a ballpark.

Re: Question??
Not real sure how much time he has in it. I just didn't think websites cost as much as they do. I'm feeling better about all this now. It's just when they are trading or buddy deals, sometimes you really have to watch them, or it could turn bad for both.
I will let you guys know when site is finished.
