Cali transplant new to the forum...
Hey there. I'm new to this forum but not to forums. Im a working musician and co-owner of a couple of tattoo shops in northern California and Iowa with more than a few hobbies so I frequent quite a few different forums: musician, guitars/amps and gear, art, tattooing, gun/shooting, 4x4s, cars, home and car audio, car audio installs, foosball, etc.
I'm a native northern California transplant living just inside the Coweta city limits with some land in the rural BA area, but I also still maintain a small A-frame cabin home up on the mountain in northern California and rent a place in Des Moines Iowa for when Im at either place working in one of our shops and playing in the 2 bands I play in.
I come to the Mustang world from the Camaro and Blazer, 4x4 world- a Chevy nut converted to Ford nut. Since I have a raging case of OCD and ADD I most likely when I find the time will be putting much money and time into my new Fords same as did with my Chevys.
In Cali I drive nothing but 4x4s around up on the mountain so thats where my expertise has been since there is always something to do to the 4x4s parts and suspensions as well as engines and transmissions.
Down in the valley, around town, and up and down the coast though its always been cruising in Camaros. I was never that big into working a car up for racing, just more of a cruiser type of guy. Growing up in the San Diego area I bought my first K5 Blazer 4x4 when I first got my license at 16 and then after graduating HS in 87' the first of many Z-28s.
When I got here I sold my last Blazer- an S-10 4x4, and a 98' Supra. Then I bought my first Ford ever- an Explorer 4x4. I love it. I then wanted a compact muscle car and decided on Mustang, but people beat me to 3 different buys: a black 98' Cobra, a gray 02' Mach I, and a white 05' GT. Then my brother who owns a paint and body shop sells me a 98' Base Mustang with a cool custom flame paint job he had just done. My starter Mustang I guess. The V-6 was kind of fun to play around with- for a minute- not as much fun as my old I-6 Supra, but ok, the 5 speed made it fun. I added Flowmaster true duals, a K&N air system. It had American Racing wheels and Nexen tires when I got it, and a buddy well versed in Mustangs helped me go thru the engine. But it was still a V-6. And these dudes in my neighborhood kept creeping by my house in their V-8 Mustangs. Peer pressure. It gets to ya. They really had me wanting that 'sound'. That beautiful sound. I found myself on YouTube listening to V-8 Mustangs almost every night.
So I sold the Base to a kid whose dad didnt want him having a V-8 car.
... and bought an 01' GT Premium this past week from a new friend I met at a Ford dealership while there buying parts for my Explorer where he works. He had to sell the GT to fund his next project- a Roush Mustang that he had setup to buy but needed more cash to buy it, so he was selling his 'baby'.
The GT is Black (my fave color for my vehicles). Low miles, the car was meticulously maintained. Dark, dark tint. New tires. Came fairly loaded with a few goodies the previous owner had already done for me: BBK CAI, Flowmasters, AirRaid TBS, Superchips tuning with programmer (91 octane right now and running awesome ... still reading the Superchips book), some suspension work (I will be doing more),etc. My first 'mod' will be doing a front brake job this weekend possibly. (After I rip out the stock stereo system and install something a little more modern and something I can hear over the car). Been on Americanmuscle.coms site looking into either an SSBC Big Brake kit or a Brembo Ford Racing Big Brake kit. After that, who knows where things will lead me with this car. But I finally got 'that' sound. And another hobby to spend all my extra moneys on.
Anyways. Howdy ya'all. Sorry for the novel. Looking forward to learning all I can from you guys and gals, and joining in on one of the cruises. Sorry, wont find me racing though- just a cruiser...

Thanx.
No. I didnt sell the Supra to buy a Mustang- but now that I have my GT I would have. I sold it to a buddy in California who had always wanted it. I come from a car family- my dad and uncles ran an auto body/paint/repair shop/used car lot when I grew up and they were always buying and selling cars, working on them, etc. My brother has the paint shop now.
I do have some love for the Supras though, had several of them, and cant wait to see what they do with it next.

Have fun. You will have to honk the horn to get the heater to work and turn on the left turn signal to get the radio to turn on. Miranda had one and it was the biggest POS!!! You should have went with the Jeep man.

I like the new ones... Smart move since 99.9999% never see off road. I not going to pay $50k for a new 4x4 and then got mudding. (raptor excluded). I'm gonna buy a beater and not worry that I tore it up.
But Chris... I know what Jeep fan you are... The new Cherokees are too sweet. They did a good job spending my tax $$ on the redesign.

Easy there... Just saying the new explorer should have been renamed. An explorer is an SUV. It is now a crossover, therefore not an explorer.
Said nothing about jeep being better or even offroading???

No. No No... I know. Just saying the the buyers of them aren't the hard off road type which is where the frame has the advantage. There's really a lot of cool vehicles out there right now.
I see us driving some type od CUV or SUV for the foreseeable future. We use the hauling and space a lot. I lean towards the CUV. Like the smaller size and momma likes the ride better. We love our Edge. But I love the Evoque from Rover.

Re: Cali transplant new to the forum...
My Explorer(Exploder) I bought here in Oklahoma is more like the 'family wagon' that just happens to have 4x4 (push button 4x4 at that...). It sees some snow and ice driving in the winter and we take it when we go down to our land off of 141st St to shoot, pull the 4wheeler down there and ride it, etc, but it isnt the offroad type of 4x4s like Im used to.BMMC1 wrote: 99.9999% never see off road. My little S-10 Blazer 4x4 I bought new and beefed up a little. It wasnt as badass as my old K5 w/383 that I keep up in northern Cali to drive around when there, but it was still a fun little truck off road and in the snow- which sometimes gets pretty deep up there. I know a little bit about snow from living up on the mountain the last 20 years and from living part time in Des Moines Iowa the last 12 years. In Iowa it snows from November to April but theyre nothing like the ones we get up on the Sierra Nevada. I did a few engine and lift/suspension mods to the little S-10 but not as much stuff as Ive done to the old K5. I still kind of miss it though. I had it here the last 2 years in those little Okie 'blizzards' and the BFGs just ate the snow up here. Xmas Eve year before last and the worst of the snow days we had last year I was some times the only dumbbutt out tooling around Coweta early in the mornings.
I'm now looking for a cool old Bronco to fix up and play around with.

The difference is one looks like an SUV, the newest one looks like a GMC Acadia,,,, which is a cross between an SUV and a Minivan.
PS, they are secretly growing on me
