Radio Suicide Empty Radio Suicide

Post by 08STALLION 11/10/2011, 12:53 am

The radio died in the black 08 a few....errrr.....months ago and I'm finally bored listening to nothing. Checked power going into it, its ok so I know its internal. So questions.....

Im not a radio guy, I should have bought David Cox's when i had the chance but didn't, Best Buy says I need a $100 "something" to connect an aftermarket double din (nothing to fancy, around a $300 stereo) to the car. Plus the install price, plus the faceplate. Is all this necessary??????? Would I be better just going with a used factory radio and taking my chances that it will last?

Ok, all advice welcomed! BTW the 08 is a base model stereo and speakers with a single disk, no shaker. I prefer Best Buy because we have an awesome credit card with them, and they always do good work, but im open to options

Oh, and im not a super techno I-phone kinda guy, just want tunes!

Thanks!

I'll try Walmart first. I'm a big fan of Walmart. I come out of there with fly gear.

Jimmy i have a stock radio that was from my 06 when i changed it out to a shaker 500. Im pretty sure though that it may not be plug and play. You may have to get it reflashed or reset as i recall. But your welcome to it if you want to try.

Wonder what the $100 piece is.

I know when I worked for Best Buy, the 03+ Chevy vehicles all had the security system, horn, cruise control, etc., wired through the factory radio. Removing that meant you lose all that functionality, so you had to buy a harness with a bunch of relays to separate that from the radio.

Did the new Mustangs start doing this too?

Thanks David!!! I'll probably take you up on that, if it works what do you want for it? Still playing with the idea of a nice DVD touch screen type radio. But im good with stock too if it works.

It worked fine when i removed it. Im pretty sure youll have to get it flashed to operate the CD player. I had to have the shaker re flashed when i switched it. Its yours for any price your comfortable with. Its just sitting in the attic. I have no use for it.

Deck's are super simple to install, hardest part is correct wiring, which even that isn't hard. I installed my deck myself and it took maybe an hour. If you want to go aftermarket I love my Pioneer but Kenwood are excellent as well. I chose mine because it looked factory and had bluetooth, an aux cable, and a usb which is all I wanted. I'd check out the decks on sonicelectronix.com, they always have the cheapest prices, sometimes up to 50% off what other places would charge you. Also DONT HAVE BESTBUY INSTALL IT! They suck and know absolutely nothing.

This is the deck I ordered, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13364_Pioneer-FH-P8000BT.html. I could do the install really really cheap for you if you want.

Sonic also gives you the wiring harness and dash mount kit for free. If you were to buy them separate it'd be like 20 bucks.

Lemme know what decks you're looking at, if you can solder and use a screwdriver I could tell you how to wire it and you could do the rest.

WOW lots of options! I was told if I put a Shaker in, that the rear speakers wont have any bass, because I don't have the factory amps that come with the shaker unit. I think Hector told me this when I was looking at buying his old shaker recently, before mine died.

I'm going to check out that website and some other places today, see what I want. price vs necessity vs want I guess !!!

Soooo If I go aftermarket I may be giving you a call Barrett, and if I can figure out how to do the Shaker with BASS Casi's 6disk would be awesome, and if I get bored and indecisive, David's stocker will make plenty of tunes.....ok decision time, thanks everyone!!

I would advise against the skipper 500. Also you'll be surprised how much better the music sounds just from upgrading to an aftermarket deck.

Well, i appreciate all of the offers, and advice but i was out shopping today and found a 6.2" Jenson, marked down from $699 to $350. Nav, Bluetooth, HD, Satellite, USB plug, DVD player, back up cam ready. Installed, out the door with the nav antenna and the mic was under $500. I love it. Full touch screen. But again i cant say how much i appreciate all the offers, this just seemed to good to pass up! And they tested the old one, its internal failure.

Seriously, the way they told me was to pull the parking brake to "one click" and drive that way, which prob doesn't hurt the brake, but then the damn thing beeps the whole time.

Lol that is a funny solution. I know a guy in Norman Ok that will do that while you wait. He actually works at a best buy and he will knock it out. I am sure there is a guy closer but just putting that out there.

The backup camera is a must have, I have the camera in the license plate cover and it has saved me a couple of times. My kids lay there crap in the driveway and once I open the garage door I am already in the car. I ran over a basketball once and I thought it was a kid. Its worth the piece of mind especially if you a spoiler.

I have never been able to find a deck that could do handsfree calling so let me know if you set that up and it works.

I need to meet your friend, lol no one in Tulsa will do it "legal liability, blah blah blah" I will prob add a camera, it has the attachment for it.
As for the hands-free it works beautifully, with my friends i-phone, but not so much with my Samsung slider smart phone. It works, but wont download contacts, i was told that the phone is not compatible. Best Buy did an amazing job, even ran the GPS antenna and mic, hiding the wires at all costs. I'm happy for under $500, does all i need and more.

If anyone knows someone closer than Norman, or how to disable the parking break alarm or fix the stereo, I'm open to suggestions. If you can put on makeup and text while you drive.....cant I watch gone in 60 seconds while driving an imitating Cage???? Come on!!

when I was at Best Buy we just ground out the sensor wire. That way the head unit always thought the brake was engaged...

If you can put on makeup and text while you drive.....

I was pulled over by a State Trooper for Speeding and I told him I thought there should be a special speed limit for those of us that just drive. When I am in my Mustang I simply drive, sometimes without even a radio on. 90 mph is not a big deal if you are paying attention.

It happened two months ago on Highway 9 near Riverwind Casino. the Trooper told me that there is a bill being introduced that will give them the ability to pull people over that drive distracted without any other reason. He let me go with a warning

I saw the same trooper at my local diner and bought him breakfast. Well I paid for it and left because they are not allowed to take gifts. I don't have an issue with Troopers because around here they focus on these Unsafe semis trailers. You can't get through Newcaastle with an overloaded trailer.
