Parents don't trust me... LT headers and cam are safe mods.
Alright so I told my dad that I'm gonna try and get a cam or LT headers or even both. He talked to a friend of his and his friend told him that basically when you start modding the engine that's when stuff goes wrong. Now I understand what he's saying but is this true with a cam? With a proper tune can the cam really screw anything up? And also just so they can hear it from you are LT headers safe, I told them I already have headers on there I'm just getting better ones. So post your .02 so I can let them read this thread.

You're legally an adult. Can't you make your own decisions without your parents approving them? I never let my parents tell me what I can or can't do to MY car.

Title's in my dad's name. So I can purchase all I want but in the end whether I put it on or not is his decision.

For your dad: make Barrett buy the car from you, then have title re-issued in his name and transfer insurance coverage to him also. Voila, no more worries for you about what mods he makes to the Mustang or how he drives it.

The safety of the motor mostly lies within the tune and the driver. If it is properly tuned after the cam is installed, you shouldn't have any worries and as long as your not out banging it off of the rev limiter

Re: Parents don't trust me... LT headers and cam are safe mods.
For the record Barrett, you have "cams" as in 2 cams. Long tube headers will not hurt anything at all, car will definitely be LOUDER.
As for the cams, lots of things can go wrong during the install and if the tune is not correct...even more can go wrong.
So bottom line is, if you have a reputable installer install the cams and a proper tune you should be alright. Key word "should"
Why not use the mod money to go towards paying off the car so that you dont have to ask your parents permission?

Re: Parents don't trust me... LT headers and cam are safe mods.
Barrett do what you want. It's your car. Screw your Dad if he can't take a joke. In fact if he really loved you, he'd buy them for you. I'd tell him that.
As far as the cams go.... It's a 5 min install. Tops! The hardest part is installing and configuring the hydraulic modulators. There are 7 of these. One for each cylinder. Many threads on this all over the web. It's not hard, just time consuming. 57 hours or so total. So prepare to have you car down for no longer than a day.
Also. the outlet valve rod on the #2 left rotor takes a special tool to release. I think steve's wholesale sells these. Just call them and ask to speak to Prince Albert (Yes that's his real name) . If he's in the can, tell them you'll wait.
That's really it. Nothing to it. Oh... there is an optional thing you can do. Since the rearend cover will be removed, It's a good time change your smog pump fluid. Most people do it since it's right there in the trunk anyway. OH! USE SYNTHETIC SMOG PUMP FLUID! It's better for the environment. You do want to be "Green" don't you? Remember... Earth day is every day!
Good luck! Can't wait to hear them! I bet Lee would give you a hand. He's done several of these installs.

Dang. I was doing something wrong. I wonder why my cams (2) were making so much noise and making my engine shake allot. It did sound cool. I hope I didn't mess up Fluffer's car. His sounds just like mine did but louder.

Re: Parents don't trust me... LT headers and cam are safe mods.
Who would be installing the cams and LT's? If you are installing them i would say it is NOT safe just from reading some of your other posts. If you have a professional do it and tune it preferably all at one shop then yes I would say these are "safe" mods. But when you mod anything ANYTHING can and will happen

Re: Parents don't trust me... LT headers and cam are safe mods.
cams and long tubes are perfectly safe as long as theyr installed correctly....who are you guys kidding? you can totally fubar a LT install and it wont destroy the engine. worse thing you can do is crack the head from over torquing....though you would most likely strip the treads first. you dont need a tune for longtubes though it is highly recommended, most cams on the other hand require a tune though not all. that being said cams are pretty easy to install ask hector heheh. just follow the instructions to the letter.
the only thing that can go wrong is with the tune and if were going to be 100% honest you could blow up a stock engine with a bad tune. EASY.
if you want your dad can look at my car. runs like a top never had any failures

No offense there sport, but I have NEVER heard of any S197 ruining a motor by "Fubaring" a long tube install. Probability of that happening is next to nill
