1998 engine question
I have a 1998 that has X in the VIN 8th position denoting that it is a Windsor motor but I have 11 bolts valve covers which means it has a Romeo. The only reason I ask is because I know for sure that the 99-04 4.6L's Windsors came with 8 bolt cranks and the Romeo's only came with 6 bolts and people have said that the 96-98's only came with 6 bolts. Does anyone know for sure the answer? I'm about to do a transmission swap on my car and want to make sure I have the proper flywheel that will bolt right up.

Re: 1998 engine question
Just to be sure, I would check the vin on the motor to make sure it never had a swap done to it... then pull the build sheet for that vin number compared to the vin on your car...
Re: 1998 engine question
hmmm do you know anything about the cars history? sounds to me like your car may have been the possible benefactor of a PI head swap.

Re: 1998 engine question
No all the VINs match up. The motor is completely stock and has not been modified. It has NPI heads still on it I took note of it when I did the intake swap on it to give it the upgraded intake with aluminum cross.

Re: 1998 engine question
That's interesting. What does the build tag say on the valve cover? Should list if it's a 2V Romeo or Windsor IIRC.
