I need a smoke vacuum leak tester...
So I have a leak somewhere in my EVAP system, and between the smell and the fuel richness, I am going crazy. Finally deciding that this weekend I am going to install the Supercar Fuel Pump, check all the gaskets and lines back by the tank, and then test the EVAP solenoids and everything around there. Not going to stop until I find the problem.
Problem is, the tester I need is $1100 from AutoZone... Took it to Pinnacle Performance in Owasso, and they can do it, but want $150 to diagnose, and they need to keep the car for alteast 4 hours, up to a day if it takes them that long. My parents are out of town, so I can steal (read: borrrow) one of their cars for a day if needed, but the $150 seems steep to find a vacuum leak. Also don't want to just replace random stuff if it's not needed...
Suggestions? And Jarrod, if you respond in telling me to sell it and get another, I'm gonna steal those 19s and sell them at the flea market to buy 18" versions for my car...

Re: I need a smoke vacuum leak tester...
Should be easy to find it. There's not that many vacuum lines on the new cars.

Its not really the vacuum lines i am having an issue with, but more the fuel vapor collector lines... everything from the filler neck to the fuel filter, evap charcoal canister, and into the intake manifold...

lol, not all vacuum leaks are easy to find, I seen our guys look hours for the smallest leak, but this is on the newer stuff which has very small tolerance. 150 doesn't sound bad considering we charge around 100 a hour to diagnose.

haha... studying the haynes manual trying to decide how fun of a project it will be this weekend... gonna check the canister and stuff first, and if that doesnt help ill replace the fuel pump and check everything on the back half of the car...
Do you have to remove the fender to get to the canister, or is it accessible by removing the wheel and fenderwell liner?

I'm sure it's something simple.

On my red GT we took the canister out without removing the fender and only the wheel and fenderwell liner, let it sit outside for a few hours and dry up. I dont remember why though... LOL
Should be the same for you.

Yea, need to just have the time to mess with it. My suspension stuff will be in this week, so should be able to check it while doing the install...
