P0442 Error Code: Evaporative System Malfunction, Small Leak
Been reading on this for an hour so, mine popped a few weeks ago and I reset it and tightened the gas cap, thinking it was the culprit. Well now, 2 weeks later, it came on again, and now it has me wondering what it is.
Fun fun, any comments? Going to be changing out the fuel pump if we have this tech day in a couple of weeks, so will check over all the gaskets and such then. Looked over the engine and don't see any fuel drips or anything. Haynes Manual says it's caused by a lack of vacuum within the fuel system...

Haven't heard of that one. Could it just be that you need a new gas cap? Maybe it's not sealing? Otherwise there are some o-rings in the fuel lines and at the fuel pressure reg. I'd bet it's something simple though.
You mentioned changing your fuel pump. What symptoms are you having with it? One might have something to do with the other?

Well initially it was just in preparation for the supercharger, but recently ive been having an issue where the car is a slight bog or hesitation when cruising around 2k rpm. A buddy has an f150 with the same issue and it turned out to be fixed with the fuel pump... just got me curious...

It's either vacuum leak or the purge solenoid.Look at the plastic vacuum lines behind the right strut tower. The purge solenoid is there also.

I had this problem on my cherokee. Had to get a new gas cap.

Yea but did it take a week or 2 for the gas cap to pop up? When my parents had that issue, it would pop up a few minutes after starting the engine.

no idea, been a few years. Just remember getting a similar code and it was a gas cap

Well it popped on again, and now i noticed this issue.
If i cold start, the idle rises to 2000 rpm, then rests back to normal. If i put it in gear and press the gas, it stumbles like its starving for something, then after a few seconds picks itself off the floor and goes as normal with no problems. Redline runs have no physical issues, and if i turn the car off and restart, it runs fine with no issues. Only does this after sitting an hour or two. I can also smell fuel, but dont have any leaks i can tell...

To me, the stumble sounds like a manifold leak, like its losing pressure or something. Dunno on the fuel. Ideas?
