~ Anyone on here Install a Wideband? ~
Has anyone on here installed a wideband? I'm looking into getting one for Christmas / my Birthday and was wondering if some people wouldn't mind helping with the install and to get it running right.
It comes with everything needed; the sensor, wire harness, etc
https://www.upscaleautomotive.com/p-12748-auto-meter-phantom-52mm-wideband-airfuel-gauge-kit.aspx
Thanks alot
Chris

I will help, just because I want to get one for mine, so this would be good practice. I have never installed one so it would be learn as I go for me.

I'm sure we can help out. Biggest thing is the bung needed for the sensor.

its all plug and play minus having the exhaust bung put in buy you can take it to any local shop and have them put it in for a few bucks...BUT if kurtis turned off your rear O2 sensors you can put it there if you want

My O2 sensors are turned off. I have an o/r X pipe.
Where is the best place to put the bung? The one I'm buying comes with a weld on bung.

Re: ~ Anyone on here Install a Wideband? ~
YOu wanna position the bung between 1-2 ft after the header since you're cat free. Also... you want to put it in a position to where you can angle the sensor so that is on the side or top. Not very good if it's are pointing down and scraping the ground...

I would go with an innovative or aem wideband over the autometer. I have the aem and it seems to work good, If I had to do it again I would go innovative tho

no you do not want the bung that far back, you want it as close as possible to the exit of the exhaust, because as the exhaust goes back further the reading is not the same as what it is at the head....hence the reason why people with turbos have it less than 3'' after the exhaust housing.... closer to the begining of the exhaust the better....
if your 02s are completly turned off then just put it in the front where the factory ones at if you want
you buying that one off SVTP chris?

1ft from the header isn't exactly far... Installed them there before with no problems what so ever.

Have you ever dyno'd your car and used a wideband sniffer? they just stick it a foot or so in the tail pipe. FAST even make a sniffer you pop in the tail pipe for quick reading. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/18225660/FAST-EZ-Clamp-0n-Tailpipe-Wideband-Sensor-Mount-Kit
I agree it probably better to get it close.. but it's not an exact science.

Re: ~ Anyone on here Install a Wideband? ~
I agree with closer the better. Accuracy is subjective. I dont trust a sniffer one bit. Sure it can get an approximate and is most likely OK if your catless. But the closer it is would make me trust the reading a bit better.

Yes... Sniffers with cats are worthless. Obviously the sensor gotta be before the cat.
Ideally it should 11.5 MM from the headers.... 11.6 is too much while 11.4 is too little.... 11.5 is just right and 11.5 it should be.

Re: ~ Anyone on here Install a Wideband? ~
Thanks for the responses guys. My buddy just sent me this,
"Ideally it should be located 18" from the exhaust manifold on the upper surface of the pipe (or more towards the upper surface than the lower surface)... this prevents condensation from forming or puddling on the sensor.
I'll tell ya though, there is VERY LITTLE clearance above that portion of the pipe, so some comprimises may need to be made. Make sure you have plenty of room for the sensor and sensor wires, last thing you want to do is have it bind against the floor pan and break on you... they are expensive.
Now, since you are running an off-road pipe, you can just unscrew one of the rear-02 sensors and screw in the A/F sensor (assuming 1- you have rear-o2 bungs on the pipe, and 2- you have the rear-o2 sensors shut off in your tune). If you don't have the rear-o2 bugs, that would be a pretty good place to have one welded in too."
Yes I think so. Actually just PM'd him for his paypal.

I just bought it! I'll keep everyone updated as soon as I get it in.
I will also be placing an order for a steering column pillar to mount it.
