Thats a cast iron block they are putting in hope its a cobra block but your car is gaining weight, they should of put the stock wap block in or a teksid but either way its boost time

KevinGT wrote:This is going to sound like a crazy ass question but can you check the mileage on a car without an engine installed? lol I mean can I connect the battery and get a reading? I assume not but thought I would check.
Yes just hook up the battery and make sure any power wires are not grounded

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
Engine will be completed this weekend and Dyno is scheduled for Wednesday. I actually feel like I am buying this car for the first time. What should I request from the Dyno guys and the engine builder as far as documentation?
I still plan to make a trip to Gregs place to get piece of mind.

I am hoping to be on the Dyno starting this week but the rains are coming. What do you guys think of the fire engine red valve covers?

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
The lid is not off it is just the Cervini wing. Since he has had it he has taken parts off and replaced the 3M tape behind it and put them back on. All the parts are laying in the shop or I would be questioning what happened as well. The agreement is the car is going to be perfect on delivery and he has taken that on himself to repair.

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
Well the car will be ready for pickup tomorrow. I went by
and looked at the finished product and it looks as good as new. The only
remaining issue is that it is difficult to put the car in reverse for some
reason. The Engine builder said there is a good change that we need to replace “a
plunger” of some sort that will put more pressure on the clutch making it
easier to shift. I hope that is the case because it was already border line for
the wife with shifting with the short throw shifter prior to the rebuild.
One issue I am going to have is ground clearance. Greg was
dead on when he mentioned that my girl is gaining weight. I am going to either
have to buy thicker side wall tires or continue to bump the bumper everywhere I
go. Could I buy stiffer springs and help raise it up a bit that way?
One last note, the car seems much quieter now that it was
before. The roaring pipes have gone down to smooth rumble. The whine seems
louder than the side exhaust which is actually ok with me. I assume the reason
is that the compression is lower from 9.8:1 to 8:8to 1?

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
The engine builder ask that I put 1500 miles on the new engine before I strap it to a Dyno or change out the Pulley/boost. I am going to be a car show slut this weekend and hit 3 different shows and most likely rack up 6 or 7 hundred miles.
I was told that the Ford Racing Tune is fine till I can break the engine in and get it re-tuned. I plan to drive to Tulsa and have Greg do it for me once I get to that point. I don't know what the cost will be yet but at least I will have some piece of mind.

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
Thank God!! Might change your springs and or purchase some adjustable shocks and mess with the stiffness. Might help?
As far as the sound YES your compression is the reason for the sound change.
The shifter part is wierd? What did they change on the clutch? Did you upgrade? If you didnt have trouble going into reverse before the blowout...you shouldnt have it now...so they need to fix it.
Enjoy that new motor of yours!! You deserve it!!

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
Picked up the car last Thursday and drove it home. Immediately
I determined that the exhaust had toned down. It also seems like the whipple whine
is louder and I can hear it engage earlier in the RPM range than before. This
could be tied to the fact that I can hear it now over the exhaust. I was told
when I picked up the car to keep it below 3500 RPM (remember that for later) and
that to be easy on it for the first 1500 miles. Once I hit 1500 miles I could
up the boost to account for the lost horsepower when the engine builder dropped
the compression.
As soon as I got the car off the lot and I started to look
at my Nav stats. It had traveled 200 miles since I dropped the car off 90 days
ago. It also had a new top speed of 120 mph. If you recall I zeroed out both of
these numbers while sitting in the parking lot because I had concerns to begin
with. I question the shop on what the hell happened and they stated that those
numbers were created while the car was on jack stands and while they were testing
out the engine. Regardless the engine went above 3500 RPM and at this point I don’t
believe a word that is coming out of his mouth. I don’t believe they ran my car
for hours on jack stands and this relationship is now over.
I now have 750 miles on the new engine and have had no issues.
I have no leaks to speak of and trust me I check every day. The only change I have
made is that I have installed the GT 500 suspension to help alleviate the low
clearance issues and that has worked out well. I am hitting the same bumps by
my house and by my work and no longer scrapping the bottom. I do have what some
would consider a 4x4 Mustang but there are always tradeoffs. Next project is to
finish this sound system install and the immediately start on the rear end
suspension upgrades. At some point I
need to change the pulley and up the boost once I hit 1500 miles.

200 miles on jack stands, gtfo! Needless to say I wouldn't leave my car there anymore, they are treating it like their own personal vehicle.

Re: Help Guys THE ENGINE HAS BLOWN
Trust me I have been seriously considering it. My biggest
concern is that I get half way to Branson and something happen mechanically. I don’t
want to be a burden to the group if something was to go wrong. I have had zero
issue to date so that might be a great trip for me to get my miles. I could use
my Hilton points to stay in Branson if the club hotel is not available.
