Some Pics of Drag Wheels
Hey guys. I took some pics of the Mustang after modding the front brake calipers to fit the skinny Welds. The pics were taken yesterday just before sunset and they didn't really turn out too great. I finally got them to fit with a 5/16" spacer and quite a bit of grinding. Here's what it looks like with the Welds in front and the Jegs 15x8" with MT ET street radials in back. I'm gettin' ready for some 1/4 mile action, action, action.....(Like September....)

The MT's are 275-50-15 and seem lost in the wheel well.
Maybe look good with a 1" drop or something?

Re: Some Pics of Drag Wheels
Looks good, look out for rock chips on the rear quarter panel with the backspacing sitting out that much.
Oh, just this weedend a racer was had to use the 275/60/15 mt et street radials and ran new record of 7.3 at 194mph with those, they hook!

Draglites been around forever, I use to run those on my 95 cobra all the time. At the drag strip, I had the drag lites on the rear and 2 spare tires on the front, don't laugh, it worked very well! :)

Re: Some Pics of Drag Wheels
Just the grinding of the caliper. Pretty substantial material removal though...2006GT wrote:Looks good! What brake mod did you have to do?
I'm worried about the rock chips too. I have some 15x8 draglites with 4.5" backspace
and they stuck out a lot. So, I got these Jegs in 15x8 with 5.5" BS and they still stick out
a little. I did have to grind on the back calipers too, but they don't need a spacer to fit.
Don't know what else to try without going to Bogarts or something like that. I
can't see putting out that kind of money for only using the drag radials occasionally.

Re: Some Pics of Drag Wheels
What about using some "Clear Bra" material to protect against the chips.

I haven't been there in quite some time now. I went back when he first opened up the museum. Brent is like a third cousin of mine too. Awesome collection of cars back then, must be really something now.

Mostly just on there to go to the track. I might put them on for some street driving, but not very much.

ive actually thought about this before.. do they actually hold up to the speed ok? i know it says on them that the "max" speed is like 65 or something. this would be a sweet freemod if someone could prove that it works

Re: Some Pics of Drag Wheels
Speed rating is for sustained speeds. The amount of time our cars spends at an excessive speed going down the track is probably not long enough to create enough friction for you to heat up the tires beyond there rated temperature. This is a guess, I am not an expert in the subject. Also. the spare tire wheels are not exactly light, lighter than stock, but still heavy. Your best result would be the drag lites.

Well when I did this it was back in 1995, I am sure a track now of days would frown on this. As for weight, those donut spares don't weigh that much, maybe a little over 20lbs if that much, they where light. I know this for a fact, I use to run 1000ft track in Russellville, Arkansas. I was running 10.9-11.0 range consistently with regulalar front tires. I started using the spares tires, iced intake and took air filter off and started running 10.6-10.7 at 94.5 mph. Thats 12's in the 1/4 with n/a 302 motor back in 1995, so I figured the spares where with a couple of tenths at least.
