Impromptu Cruise - Sunday 5/04
My wife's throwing a brunch for non-males tomorrow, so I'm banished from the house all morning and part of the afternoon - since it's supposed to be another stellar day weather-wise, I'm thinking about cruising the backroads to Sallisaw or perhaps Fort Smith.
**edited** - change of plans; probably won't be making the trip.

That does sound like a very nice idea. Wish I didn't have so many catch up projects today.

Re: Impromptu Cruise - Sunday 5/04
Well, I wound up going anyway. Rather short trip, didn't make it all the way to Sallisaw; but found some roads worth noting:
1.) Highway 72 south out of Coweta through Haskell; then turned east on Old Taft Road just before reaching Highway 16. Old Taft Road parallels Highway 16 to Muskogee and joins Higway 16 just a few miles west of Muskogee. Highway 72 from Coweta to Haskell is a straight, wide road with little traffic - plenty capable of some high speeds if one were inclined to such things. This was my first time on Old Taft Road; it's just a nice mildly-rolling road with little to no traffic.
2.) Then I headed south out of Muskogee on the turnpike and turned off towards Webbers Falls just before reaching I-40. Took Highway 100 north through Webbers Falls and Gore, then took Highway 10 north all the way through Braggs and connected to Highway 62 west back into Muskogee. If I'd ever been on Highway 10 before I didn't remember it - that was a great road! Very scenic, with some whoops, elevation changes, hairpins, everything. Saw lots of motorcycles out playing but no Mustangs (of the 4-wheeled variety.)
Stopped for barbeque at a joint in Muskogee I'm still trying to forget about. :::burp::: Hit Highway 51B north of Muskogee and took it back west through Porter and Coweta to the BA Expressway and back in to Tulsa.
This would make a great day cruise sometime, especially if we went several miles east of Tenkiller and explored some of those roads.
