Re: Wanna see my hood?
How is the quality of the paint job? I am in the process of shopping for the same hood and was talking to Carfx about doing the work. The price is fair assuming the quality of the work is up to par. I saw a car in KC with the same hood and the finish looked wavy as if it was sanded poorly. Is the paint job dirt free and look straight? Also do you know if they have more than one body man/painter? I dont want a body shop painting it since they tend to switch painters by the day and you never know what kinda finish you will end up with. Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Well here is the deal with that I think the folks here will back me up. Car FX is a high quality shop you will be very happy with the quality of work they do. But............ we have had issues with the owner over pricing and not quite delivering on time. He took a "I am important look at my cars in magazines" pill one day and his head grew three times its normal size. This caused him to think I can charge what ever I feel like it at the time we have had no less than four people in the span of a week or two get four different amounts quoted for the exact same part. His main body of work comes from dealerships but as you know that market is slowing wayyy down I know I used to manage East Tulsa Dodge as a salesmanager and have several friends inthe biz also my cousin is Danny Beck the chevy guy in Sapulpa. So now he is acting much better towards everybody which is good. The other problem is he will tell you come pick it up on Tue you call before you come over and its can I keep it till Thurs this is ok if you have several cars (I do not one for me one for wife) but stress to him the importance and he will accomadate you. The way we did my hood was test fitted on tue took about 20-30min then came back on thursday and left in about 45min not bad for a hood.
Ok quick recap
1. Price check but keep in mind a little mark-up over the net is needed to keep the lights on plus if there is a problem you got
someone to go talk to not .com
2. Stress you want it done right but you need your car for transportation
3. Enjoy your hood.
anything eles I forgot guys?
oh BTW he has a lot in stock to look at before you buy so you are not looking at a tiny picture

Re: Wanna see my hood?
Thanks for the heads up. Not worried about having the car down as I have a back up but he said they could paint the hood and call me when its finished and throw it on in about a half hour. As of right now the price is more than fair assuming my concerns on the quality of finish is up to snuff. Any input on those questions would be great, thanks George for your help!

Re: Wanna see my hood?
I think George's recap was pretty accurate. Some of us are not quick to forgive the price gouging and "My cars are in Magazines BIG HEAD" Well hes usually in the "NEW" magazine Modified fords I think? That magazine has printed very inaccurate information on some of their featured cars...and were called out on it. I dont know if they printed a retraction but SHOULD HAVE. I dont trust much of whats in that modified fords magazine but like to look at the pictures :)
Bottom line...he overpriced me on a few items and acted like I was a PEON when in there. He spoke to me as if I knew nothing of mustangs or performance parts. Hell I know more about these cars and mustangs in general then his staff Im sure and Especially him!
Anyways Rant over...there are a few on here that like CarFX and still deal with them. They like the quality and fit of his work. I dont think you will be dissapointed...just look the car over VERY WELL and if you see any defects make him fix it...dont let him tell you WELL IT LOOKS OK TO ME.....WELL ITS NOT YOUR CAR ITS MINE hehe
If Carfx will meet the online prices and start swinging a fairly prices stick on install and parts...I would consider purchasing through them and installing all parts myself.
BUT for right now I know my online stores for parts....I have spoken with the owners and sales reps of these .com stores and they are amazing to work with. Quality is amazing and if I ever have an issue...its fixed immediatly.
My 2 cents :)
Let us know how your experience goes with FX

Re: Wanna see my hood?
I have never dealt with them but from what I have heard and from what I have read here I will definately ask a lot of questions if I ever do have them do anything.

I have dealt with them and will never go back. The owner is a sarcastic jerk who thinks his sh*t don't stink and is all in all a very rude person.

Re: Wanna see my hood?
ive dealt with them twice. the first occasion, i bought a set of cervinis window scoops and side scoops from him unpainted and he sold them to me at cervinis cost. a very nice thing to do. they next time i went, i wanted a set of aluminum louvers. i was quoted 600 bucks! i asked why there was such a high mark-up and he said it was for the install. so i bought a set on my own and installed them myself in about 10 minutes. also, my buddy with a LL mustang had them install a CDC shaker with a personally designed hood stripe. next thing you know, my buddy sees the hood stripe on about 3 or 4 other mustangs...
Re: Wanna see my hood?
His son is the painter. They match paint real well. I Took my cervini scoops to him to paint. He didn't want to touch them. Will said the cervini process tends to have the mold release agent in the product, which make for fisheyes and primer not to stick. He said to do a good job could run into much time to rework and get a good finish.I called cervini and the salesman told me the same thing. The price for these scoops painted are 700 bucks.(all 4)High because they to have to redo so many.My time is free so i am doing them my self. All i will be out is material .Will priced the materials in small quanties for 150 bucks.English paint supply wanted 275.I went to the mustang forum some had problems and some did not.

Re: Wanna see my hood?
Well it sounds like the consensus is that they overcharge and they are overhyped so to speak. To me its pretty simple, when I shop around I look at quality and fair price. So far the price is great I am just wanting to make sure the quality is in line which a couple people pointed in that direction.
I am like most of you guys when it comes to mods. Why pay someone else when you can do it yourself. however in this case I am not a painter nor bodyman and I am more concerned about the final product rather than how many magazines he has cars in. At the end of the day I have been quoted a fair price I just wanted to know George's thoughts on the paint work before I had it done. Thanks for everyones input and I am sorry to open what is an apparent can of bad worms.

Re: Wanna see my hood?
Again the quality of paint work is a non issue with them they are really good at that. It tends to be business practices that bother some of us but like I said he seems to be working on it. Too many start talking about how bad you treat them it will get around. If you are cool with the price I say go with it.

Re: Wanna see my hood?
CAR F/X
Customer Service face to face A+
Telephone Customer Service D-
Hurst Shifter install A+
Shelby Hood pins D-
Installed hood pins and instead of cutting the bare minimum of plastic on the radiator cover they cut huge squares for the pins. 4 months after the install I am at the Mustang OK car show and CAR F/X owner is a judge. He looks at me and then my car and I say "those pins look like shit don't they" He agreed and my blood boiled over. Once I stopped venting he offered to repair it free of charge. D- upgrade to C+
If I compare Car F/X to the rule of how I want to be treated then they grade out at a D+ and if I grade him against other Vendors it is a C+. Lets face it most vendors are not worth shit.(my experience) I have only found 2 vendors that run a shop they way it should be done. That is Performance muffler in Norman OK and Vinyl Top Specialist in OKC. The rest can't give a solid quote to save there life or they are 48 hours over on time.

they gave me a price of $500 for a Cali hood scoop panted and installed. I made it clear to they " why so much? I can get a new hood for a few more bills".
