Re: good place to take car pics?
usually you can just go behind a warehouse. They're everywhere, easy to find, and they offer a decent background. Nothing spectacular, but you can get a nice, uncluttered background, and there are always ramps where you can park your car at cool angles, or stand on things to get above or below your car for cool shots. Like I said, they're nothing spectacular, but at least you get a nice clean background pic. Here are a few examples of shots at a loading dock, or a plain brick wall.

Re: good place to take car pics?
I just bought a Mac notebook, and I had some software pre-installed. I mostly use a program called "Aperture 2". I use that for most everything. To make HDRs, I use "Photomatix", and very very occasionally (to do the see through hood thing) I need something similar to Photoshop, but there is a free program out there, based on photoshop, called "Gimp". It has all the tools of photoshop, but its free.

Re: good place to take car pics?
Thanks for the compliments guys! My camera is a Canon Rebel XT. Its about the cheapest most basic SLR you can get. I picked it up on ebay for a very very reasonable price, which was less than most every point and shoot you can buy, and it takes great pics.

Re: good place to take car pics?
The Rebels are nice. Almost bought one but wanted something a little smaller and one that could shoot video as well. I have a Cannon G9 and love it. Basically a hybrid (Point and Shoot/SLR) Pretty compact like a point and shoot but, full SLR capability.

Re: good place to take car pics?
Yeah, those cameras are great for someone who wants to be a little more creative than what most point and shoots offer. The limitation there becomes the lens, where you can't swap it out for another. Thats what I like about my SLR, there are hundreds of lenses out there to upgrade to, without upgrading the camera frame.

Re: good place to take car pics?
Yep... that's the only down side. You can attach filters, telephoto and macro lenses/filters. But that's about it.
We travel a bit so I sacrificed the lens swap for size.
