Replacing front door subs
I am starting to notice some rattle coming from the stock 8 inch subs in the door. I have done some research and found that if I want to replace those subs I will have to replace the amp as well which is doable. I have a 2006 GT coupe with shaker 500 system and the Kenwood DNX8120 head unit.
Has anyone replaced these subs? I am not crazy about the huge speaker cover that covers the sub so that could be replaced as well. I really like this look

The door speaker (picture toward the bottom) is nice but what Rockford can make fit and what I can fab out are two different things. I am also getting further away from the stock look which I really try not to do.

Re: Replacing front door subs
I too am not a fan of the grill and the that Rockford setup looks good...well minus all of the red. :)
Havent replaced my front door speakers...I have the Schoche rear sub setup in the trunk like in the Shaker 1000 system. (Note I have the shaker 500 system run by a California 1000w Mono Amp and Pioneer AVIC D3 headunit. In my head unit I adjust the equalizer to utilize more of my Subwoofer than my door subs...this creates clear vocals in the car (no rattles) and a nice low bass from the sub in the trunk. Instead of replacing the subs you might just look into toning them down a bit. Or is it completely blown?
Kicker had a nice setup at the shelby show as well

Re: Replacing front door subs
Hey Grabber, Can you post a picture of the Schoche if you have a pic of it? I thought about getting one of those for the trunk and having it carpeted to blend in. I will search the site and see if you have already posted it somewhere else.
The door subs are not blown but they are spastic. I can listen to rap and they are punchy and tight. Then I throw on some Randy Travis and the bass rattles loose during the vocals. It is very odd but it is obvious when it happens. I am going to end up Dynomatting the whole car because rattles and creaking noise drives me crazy. It could be more of a rattle than a speaker problem but If I cracked those doors open once everything is getting replaced.

Re: Replacing front door subs
Kevin... on the inside of the door handle cover thingy-ma-bob, there is a plastic insert/cover. Mine was kinda loose and would rattle at certain freq. I thought it was the speaker at first.
Worth a shot.

Re: Replacing front door subs
i've thought so many times about doing some speakers in the trunk, but weight savings has so far prevailed everytime. if i do ever decide to do it. it will have to be a shallow mount box right behind the seat so that you would open the trunk and not even see it if you didn't know what the mustang trunk was supposed to look like. would still have full use of the spare tire hole so i could still carry my slicks to the track as that of course is the most important thing right

Re: Replacing front door subs
The sub I have was designed to fit right where the Mach 1000 sub goes. There is only one screw holding it into place....takes about 10 seconds to remove.
Also suprisingly the sub doesnt weigh all that much. Weight savings is also on my mind as well...BUT I love the tunes!!

Re: Replacing front door subs
yeah the visibility would be second. i don't want to see them unless i put my back seats down and after i get everything else done i won't have any back seats so they would be integrated into the rear seat delete. i would end up using something like this. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=245 would wait for the 12's to come out though. wish they had 8's for the front doors.

Shelby
Added the Shelby 8 inch door subs this weekend and the install was simple. The good news is that the sub no longer bottoms out and is no longer the weakest link of my system. The install took about 45 minutes on the first door and 25 minutes on the second door. Basically taking the door panel off is the hardest part. Now the bad news is that the speakers sticks out further than stock which to me highlights the already piss poor look of the door. Its not a huge deal but having huge cans (either shelby or stock) protruding out of the door seems like poor form. For you racers the sound is nice but the weight is more than doubled.
