Post by Psycho Bob 1/10/2012, 10:30 pm

just finished my vacation and am now back in afghan (suck). a couple awesome things did happen during my time at home.

1st. we of course had a vacation in CA. hello 85k people at disney land ugh

2nd. it was a nice 50ish degree's for few days in CO. so for the first time since the sc'er install over a year ago i was able to drive my car. that was so nice and really even with the kdw2 tires and my driving habit's it won't be a problem for me on the streets.

saving the best for last. we went house hunting for 2 of the days i was home and found an amazing deal on a newer home. 6 beds, 4 full baths, 3 car garage, 3800 sqft, new paint and carpet, new kitchen appliances, wet bar downstairs, 1/2 acre lot, and many of the neighbors have huge detatched garages in the backyard. all this for 265k. we got a steal since all the houses around it are priced around 350-400k.

now the question is what is the best option for the garage floor. i've seen crappy "paint" jobs just peel up from the floor. also have seen people use the garage tiles which look great, but i imagine they are quite spendy

Epoxy, Rustoleum has had some good reviews. Coat the floor, sprinking some flakes (optional) and walla.

I've used the Epoxy Shield on two different garage surfaces. There is quite a difference in the epoxy lasting on freshly poured slab and an older 'used' slab. The best is to prep and paint a new slab. No oils, grease etc to worry about and no you can't get it all up, no matter how hard you try. My last house had 4 years of GTX oils/fluids/grease on it and I scrubbed it and painted it. Most areas lasted several years but some high traffic areas that had once been soaked in oils peeled quite quickly. In 6 years I repainted 3 times. My recent home was new when the Epoxy Shield went down. After 4 years its still as if you painted it yesterday. Holding up very nicely. So bottom line is a fresh very clean virgin floor will hold up fine with that fairly inexpensive Epoxy Shield. A floor that has seen better days may not hold up well at all.
