Pulley and Tune
Since the 2013 Shelby's will have a 5.8L I am going to wait and buy one of those when the order banks come open. In the mean time I am going to put a pulley and tune on the 2011. Was looking around and the two best are VMP and Lethal Performance. The Lethal kit is $100 more expensive (once you add in the spark plugs for the VMP kit) and is it worth it? Spoke to lethal and they will swap out the aftermarket pulley for the stock look.
So the question becomes is the Jon Lund tune that much better?

Re: Pulley and Tune
If your looking at changing to the TR-6 plugs they will cost you about 10-15 dollars locally. I got the VMP pulley, but either would work as well as the other IMO

Re: Pulley and Tune
Call Van at Revan Racing as mentioned. I have the VMP stock look pulley with a Lund tune. I had a VMP tune, but it detonated like crazy. I spent the extra money on a Lund tune and have not looked back

Re: Pulley and Tune
Trying to work out a package deal right now, Posi ported blower + matched VMP Elbow, no use since port, 2.59 pulley + idler + tunes. This would be Justin tune. I would just sell my stock one.
What did you mean by detonating like crazy, and did you try to get it fixed Jarrod? He told me you can data log and send the info back?

Re: Pulley and Tune
I did datalog and send Justin at VMP my info, he adjusted and it still was having issues. I kept being told it was "bad gas"
David McKay also had a VMP tune and the tune was only commanding 10 degrees of timing and was VERY low on power. David and Justin at VMP argued for weeks over what the issue was. David and I chased a ghost due to Justin saying it was a "mechanical issue"...so we searched for one...NADA. Put the car on Kurtis's dyno and walla, found out why it was down on power. Kurtis wrote David a tune and eureka, car had new found power....Justin still claims it was not his tune.
Not saying Justins tunes are bad, just that I had detonation issues that were blamed on bad gas (which when I switched to Lunds tune...car felt faster and had ZERO detonation on the same tank of gas VMPs had issues with) this is why I will no longer use Justins tunes. I will stick with Lund from here on out.

Re: Pulley and Tune
This is my opinion, but from what I have seen you will not see a big gain with a ported blower. If you are racing it will definately help you on top end, I was going to go that route, in fact I already had the blower ported and on site and decided against it. The gains were not worth the effort to me. I was running most of the upgrade bolt ons minus the big blower and was making right at 600 rwhp, the ported blower might have got me an extra 25-30 horsepower, most of which would not be felt in daily street driving. Most guys recomend running a lower to get the full extent of the port. Now it seem that there may be some problems with the lower pulleys. Time will tell. Again this is my OPINION if you are itching for more power and torque save you sheckels and wait for a TVS you will not be dissapointed. I personally would not invest in a ported blower without a buttload of extra mods to make it work.Just my opinion.

Re: Pulley and Tune
Yeah, I see what you guys mean.
I was thinking the port would go very nicely with my Cobrajet TB which I just got (used). Just something wrong about bolting that up to my stock elbow, you know?
I could just get 2.59 pulley/ idler + lund tune, period. I could still use my TB, just might be restricted in stock elbow a bit?
As for lower 10%, I"m hearing from several sources to hold off for now, and given the prices of those things, I am keen to do so.
If I just do pulley/idler tune, that is about $450 bucks. Then I have money left over for many other things. That ported blower does look very nice though, and it would breathe better. Bigger elbow too...would compliment my new TB. Whew! Tons of things to consider. I just talked with "BJ" for over an hour man can that buy talk.

Re: Pulley and Tune
Ryan,
I would go with the 2.59 pulley/idler + Lund tune and go ahead and install the throttle body (it is worth it even if you arent getting the full advantage). But a warning....sometimes those aftermarket throttle bodies can be finicky to tune correctly. Make sure you let Van know what you are installing so he can make the proper adjustments.
I too was wanting to do a 10% lower, but after reading about the failures I am going to hold off until a definitive answer is found.
*** You could also drive her stock for now, forget your mods, and save your pennies for a TVS, which is what I think you really want.

Re: Pulley and Tune
True man. Then again "just" 450 bucks at this point. Could be worth it just for the fun factor...I"m thinking. Of course, I also want my carbon fiber chin spoiler, side skirts, mudflaps and hood insert...just think how that would look! Drool.

Re: Pulley and Tune
Could keep her stock for now, install those carbon fiber pieces, meanwhile decide on what to do about power? We are getting into the colder months, so you wont be able to use that extra power until late spring anyways

Re: Pulley and Tune
Bj is really up to speed on these cars his advice is always spot on, have talked with him several times over the past few years. The throttle body will do nothing but help, swap pulleys and get a tune, then say good bye to your rear tires, they will go up in smoke.

Re: Pulley and Tune
He said he would not say Jon Or Justin tunes were any better than the other. Justin has a GT500 and his own dyno he can test on.
Speaking of tires...check out this supersnake thread.

I wonder if I should have my rears widened 1" to 11.5". Then I could put some big ole meats on there...I like the Michelin tread, seems better "all weather" for OK weather.
