Got the house!
Well we signed on the house yesterday. Super excited!
First things to do:
Clean carpets
Paint
Change locks (who is cheapest when replacing on 5 doors? Lowes is $10 a knob)
Install tile flooring (anyone have a tile saw?)
Going to go buy new locks and paint tonight gonna look at appliances too.

Locks: Don't use the cheap ones or someone is going to steal your stuff.
Tile Saw: Home Depot rents them.
Painting: Sucks to be you.

+1. And while you're at it, replace all dead bolt strike plates with these:BlkonBlkRS3 wrote:Locks: Don't use the cheap ones or someone is going to steal your stuff.
They come with 3-5" screws that go all the way into the stud. Those contractor grade ones are worthless.

Re: Got the house!
And i guess i misphrased on the locks. Lowes, no matter what you buy they dont give any deals. Was wondering if there was a supply store that could deal on multiples.

Try a locksmith, we use Charlies at the jail (and you know if they can secure a whole jail, then your house ain't shi* for them) price is pretty fair compared to big chain stores.

Re: Got the house!
Sounds like you are on a roll to the lifestyle of a home owner. Congrats man. If you have a lot of painting to do maybe look at investing in a Wagner power painter. They are anywhere from $60-$150 but they make it so much easier, quicker, and cleaner.

Re: Got the house!
Yea we are doing 4 rooms today. Got a bunch if people helping, but we shall see if its worse to have multiple hands.
Re: Got the house!
hahaha often it is worse. as long as they are bedrooms it should be okay. i wouldn't want multiple people doing the living area's

Re: Got the house!
Congrats! Just be sure and do anything at all you might want to do before you move in. We ended up getting carpet 4 weeks after we moved in. Itis much easier to do things in an empty house!

Re: Got the house!
Definitely. Locks are done. Reinforced strikers in place on all solid doors. We have 7 people painting, and because of the loud levels i am working in the bedroom, with headphones and an mp3 player going... escape...

Re: Got the house!
Definitely Bob. Today it was just me, my wife, and her mom and aunt. Had some deliveries throughout the day but no other help, and i was mostly an errand boy.
Didnt get as much accomplished today as we had liked. Got a second coat of paint in the kitchen, but still need to do the edging. Master bedroom is done, and master bath is about 85% covered.
Got the new stove at the house but havent installed it yet, and got the old fan down but it got too dark to put the new one up. Started on wallpaper, should finish that and lay out the tile template tomorrow.
Its definitely coming along, but still more to do. Touchups on the baseboards and ceilings will probably be the worst.

If you buy your tile from lowe's they will cut the tile for you, you just have to mark it and take it in. I also purchased a 4.5 in concrete blade that fits a grinder and cut them by hand. Yout don't have to be too perfect because the grout will help fix most imperfections. Plus, if you're not careful, you can accidentally break a tile and have to run back and cut another. If you have the grinder and blade, its one less trip to Lowe's

Re: Got the house!
Good idea jerry. But luckily a coworker had a ryobi wet table saw he let me borrow. Due to time cinstraints it will be the weekend before i get it down, but should go quickly with the wetsaw.
