Re: started a new project last night
Awesome. Been debating on whether to do a coated floor on mine or not.
Are you planning to paint the walls?

Definitely. Signing the contract on our house tonight, and plan to close in September. Then the fun really begins...
Have you guys moved in yet?

Re: started a new project last night
Didn't notice the first time, but are you only doing half the garage?
Re: started a new project last night
lol, i was just being a smartass. he did say that he was "starting" a project. i assume theres no other place to store the crap on the right side of the garage, so its a half and half project.

That's one of the best garage projects you can do. Looks good. Is that gray? Sort of looks more blue but that may be just the camera. I painted that onto my last home and my current home already had the floor pained when I moved in. I love it.

It's ok for looks but i will never paint another floor.Dropping tools, using creepers, rolling engine stands, and cherry pickers all peel and chip the coating.I put a clear sealer on the shop floor and it is easy to touch up but isn't near as pretty.

Agreed!!!
If you are 'active' in the garage with alot of projects, then a floor paint will suffer over time. When I had my GTX I had to repaint the floor twice due to (tranny pulls, creeper marks, axle scratches, exhaust dings etc.) All I do now is oil change, rotate tires and wax the cars. The floor stays nice now. Don't do all the other stuff anymore. Body says no and so does the Doctor....

Re: started a new project last night
Thanks!
Haha yup only half done with the first layer/part. Doing the other side today and then sometime next week I will be putting on the high gloss clearcoat/sealer to give it an even and glassy smooth shine.
It is grey but looks bluish because we used both bags of flake on the first side cause it is "prettier" that way so we bought another 2 bags for the other side. I'll let you guess who thought that
I'm sure it won't last forever but it definitely beats having oil/tranny/rear end stains all over the untreated slab. And if it ever gets bad, I'll just slap another coat on it.

Lay down a big running pony before you clear it...
Cracking from impact has always been my concern

Re: started a new project last night
maybe i missed it, but are you using polyurethane? if so, you shouldnt have a problem with chipping and cracking.
Re: started a new project last night
Aaron looks great! Please report back on how it holds up. I've been wanting to do this! But like Tony (should he be cruising with another club?) and Chris said, I've seen so many that have chipped etc. Keep us updated.

Re: started a new project last night
My experience with the Lowes Epoxy Shield is when you try to paint over a floor that has had some 'wear and tear'(oil, grease etc) prep is very important and even at that it still can't match the durability of painting a new garage floor with no grease/oil stain issues. You just can't get up all the years of grime on an old floor. That being said, I would still paint my garage floor. Its so nice to work on and even if you have to repaint every 3-5 years due to flaking and chipping, it was worth it to me.
As you can see that my garage floor that was painted just after in was poured and has held up very well. My house was built in 2007 and this is what the floor looks like 4 years later. Even the area where the tires sit hasn't flaked up, which was the first place to start flaking at my last home. Its even fun to mop.

Chris, what brand did you go with? I would like to do this before we move in, since it may be a while before I get my shop...

Re: started a new project last night
Found it on the Lowe's site last night. Looks to be about $220 for both compounds needed. The epoxy itself and then the sealant...
