Help. I had the Termi re-tinted with 5% today, and my tinter couldn't get my windshield strip as low as I wanted (without cutting a slit down the center of it, which I do not want) because he couldn't get my rear view mirror off. He tried, but I am sure didn't put much effort into it because he didn't want to damage it or the windshield. Anyone help me get it off so I can get my windshield tint strip re-done (at no cost) to my liking? He did a kickass job otherwise though, especially with the rear window dot matrix area at the top. Best tint job I've had done so far. He did a great job on my wife's TSX a few years ago too.

Maybe do it on the new planned tech day of next Sat with my other stuff? See Tech thread for more info.

Exactly why my tinter didn't want to force it off. He didn't want to end up giving me a free tint job and gettin me a new windshield....

There's got to be a trick to it?

What Mike said...

You are talking about the the mirror and button mount? First remove the mirror w/arm by using the allen wrench. The mount you can remove by using a little (NOT A LOT!) bit of heat and a plastic putty knife. Take your time.... don't get in a rush.

Why not just trim around it?

Just need the mirror off, not the glued button. If miror is on, he has two options: 1. (which is what he did) only bring the strip down as far as he can (basically to the bottom of the button), in effect cutting out a u-shape
2. let it be longer, but cut a slit down the center so he can 'wrap' the tint around the mirror.

just need the mirror off, then he can cut whole strip, then cut out oval shape hole for button, apply tint, reinstall mirror

blowup

I think that is all he needs to get me an just over an inch past the bottom of the button, right? mirror off, cut a oval hole (measured from the outside of the windshield), apply tint, reinstall mirror? I wonder if he wants the button off so there is no gap between the button and the tint?

I gotta call him tomorrow

Thanks for your replies
