Launch Tips n Techniques? Empty Launch Tips n Techniques?

Post by RaceRedFiveOh 2/22/2011, 1:30 am

Anyone wanna help me out here? Used to I would just floor it and peel out a damn mile, then I started just easing on it, but that's slow as sh*t too. Sooo anyone want to give me some launch tips, I know you're supposed to rev up with the clutch left in but then it splits some people say just drop it and ease on the gas and some say ease on gas ease of clutch. So what do you guys recommend? And since I don't have my stage 3 clutch anymore I can't do anything tooo heavy on torque but I doubt I'll break it.

Are you talking launching at the track or on the street? Street tires or Drag Radials?

With either surface depending on tires really dictates your launch technique. The key on take off with street tires is slipping the clutch. I usually left around 1300 rpms slipping the clutch out and applying more gas at the same time. Never dump the clutch! Tires will just brake loose and spin. Imagine taking off at a stop light like normal....you dont hammer it, yet you slide the clutch out and give it gas....imagine doing that but doing it much much faster......thats a launch on street tires.

As for the clutch: I was on the stock clutch with all of my launches and never had problems. As long as you dont burn it up with bad technique you will be fine.

At the track drag radials are key. I could raise my RPMs to around 4500 RPMs and almost dump the clutch but in reality I was slipping it very fast....car grips and takes off.

Best way to describe how to do it right is like this. Don't dump it unless your running a full drag slick and a DS loop! You basically want to be smooth out of the hole. Imagine how you leave normally from a stop sign. No fuss. No spin. Spinning looks cool until u lose because you lost traction. Once the tires spin it's almost impossible to stop it. So ease out like from a stop sign just about twice as quick then quickly throttle into it. It takes lots and lots of practice. Good luck!
