These are 4.6 3v Modular motors....they naturally sound raspy when the cats are removed. The H will help and the you can tone the exhaust with different mufflers, but it may take a few trys.
Here was my setup.... Off Road X and Borla Stingers...sounded great and didnt rasp too much. Here is a video of my old mustang. Its hard to hear due to the camera...But its a lot louder in person trust me...but you get the idea.
Here is a good one and you can really hear the exhaust.

Re: axle backs
Nothing wrong with an auto depending on your race style. When it comes time, and tuner will help to pump it up and make it feel like a new tranny

Re: axle backs
You want a SCT Xcal tuner with tunes from a reputable tuner. Internet tunes from Brenspeed or Bamachips (american muscle) or get a custom tune done by someone like Greg (Kbcal). Anything else and your wasting your money.

Re: axle backs
Also on a side note you will actually pick up a ton more power with the new tunes for an auto. The reason is that with the auto you are so bogged down from the factory that there is tons of un tapped power in there. Shift points can be changed and the firmness of the shift can be adjusted as well. You will think youve added 100 hp and 80 ft lbs.

Totally. But hey... i love my diablosport...
Re: axle backs
The SCT is just easier to get tune files due to the majority of tuners are using the SCT software for the S197 cars.
