First and Only E85 Cobra in BMMC!
Over the weekend, I upgraded my whole fuel system to accommodate E85. I haven't been able to keep a smile off my face since I filled her up with corn.
This is out by Paul's place last night. $1.96 a gallon!
It feels great to be able to fill up at the pump on high boost and timing while not paying $13.30 a gallon for race gas.

Gas Mileage is worse but Power is WAY better from what I hear..But it is hard on your Fuel System also..You need bigger injectors, and a higher lph pump.

Re: First and Only E85 Cobra in BMMC!
Difference in power is amazing. I was making 600 ish on my race tune with VP 109. I expect on E85, I should make a good bit more. Thanks to the higher timing and the added benefits of the cooling ability of the E85.
For $2 a gallon, it really is the miracle fuel. Gas mileage isn't that bad at all. I went from Denton, Tx - Oklahoma City and only used half a tank (15 gallon tank) so 7.5 gallons. That was me going WOT through a few gears twice as well.
Not to mention I have 3.73s and cruising about 2,300 RPMS.

It requires ~ 30% more fuel to run. If your fuel system is upgraded, you should be good to go. The price difference between this and race gas is worth it alone. Not to mention the cooling benefit of it, availability at the pump, etc. $2 gallon > $13.30
It smells so good too! And you get funny looks from people while filling up
Not to mention, I have 3.73s and cruising 2,300 RPMs on the highway.

Thank you to contributing to starving farm animals. just kidding :)
I'd love to see the looks you get when filling up with e85.

And if your into supporting the local economy, E85 is 100% American Made. Produced in the US and Money goes back to US economy.

Corn killer!
Personally... i think it's pretty cool. I wanna see it run and make it a BMMC project car! Let's talk. I wanna make it a segment in the year end video.

Re: First and Only E85 Cobra in BMMC!
The problem is all alcohol’s are hygroscopic. That means it likes water, and it attracts and couples with moisture in the air, resulting in greater amounts of water collecting in the fuel tank. Since water is heavier than gasoline, the water and ethanol mix settles to the bottom. This is referred to as “phase separation”, and eventually the water/ethanol phase is drawn into the fuel delivery system. If there is no water separator in the line, the water goes into the injector/carburetor and the engine does not run properly. In extreme cases, the engine will stop running.
Ethanol is over 100+ octane, and provides the fuel with much of its octane rating. Once water reaches about a .5% level, it will phase separate. With the ethanol drawn to the bottom along with the water, the fuel will lose octane, and this can cause a loss of performance, including pinging and engine knock, which can damage your engine. It also severely worsens fuel economy and power.
There are other problems with Ethanol fuel. Ethanol is a powerful solvent and readily breaks up tars and organic sediment found in many fuel tanks. The ethanol/water mix also makes a potent stripping agent for old varnish and gum accumulated from years of gasoline sitting in the tank. These organic contaminants, once loosened from tank walls, can plug filters and injectors quickly, disabling your engine. In cold weather, the water/alcohol phase can also freeze, turning into a syrupy mix that plugs filters.
Yeah in my business we found it not as much fun as you think!

Re: First and Only E85 Cobra in BMMC!
I've been following a few different Cars that have been running E85 over the past 2-3 years and they have had no problems whatsoever.
One of them actually just tore down his motor and put in a Ford Racing 10:1 Aluminator. Inside was extremely clean.
105 Octane at $2/gal it really is the miracle fuel.

I'm not saying it won't work for you it might. I was just pointing out some of the possible drawbacks. We have lots of issues with E-gas here at work it is very corrosive too.

I understand. There are many incorrect / false statements out there regarding E85 cars, specially performance cars. All of those statements are from people who have zero experience with E85 and their motors. I was just letting everyone know that guys have been running it for years with no issues. That is enough solid evidence to convince me to make the switch.
I wouldn't put it in my car if the negatives would out weigh the positives.
There also shows no signs of corrosion on any of these guys cars from running it the past 3 years.
Half tank of E85 = $14.70. Half tank of Race gas = $99.75. The price difference alone was worth it for me. And I'm also making more power than I did with race gas because the cooling effects of Ethanol. That was just some icing on the cake really.
It's a perfect alternative for me, this being my daily driver. I have a 91 pump gas tune when I need to upload it if I don't have any stations near by.

Re: First and Only E85 Cobra in BMMC!
actually the e85 runs like its 105 octane, has wonderful cooling effects, etc etc
here is the downside, its only good to about the 105 like stated, requires MORE fuel, in my case more than your 30% more fuel
so the $1.96 is more like a lil over $3.00 for my issue, you have to completely redue your fuel system, bigger lines, bigger pumps, bigger fuel injectors
not that big of a deal if you havent already built your car
if you try and run too much timing/boost you will see problems, nothing beats good old race fuel after the 105 rating
ive seen guys making well over 1000RWHP on corn but they are a lil different setups than small blocks
i had considered this option when i was building my car again but said piss on it b/c 105 wont work for what i have planned
now if i was running your cobra i would in a heartbeat, probably the best modification you have made cept the KB, prob dont even need meth with your car now
if i ever decide to build a mod motor it will be strictly corn fed
if you want another E85 station go to 177th (lynn lane) and 61st street Kum and Go has it 1.96 the other day

sweet! just making sure ppl knew where it was at
only other downside to E85 is that if i were you i would carry a test kit to make sure i was getting E85 some have claimed that their E85 actually tested about E70-79 so not getting what you are paying for
of course there is E98 as well but its like $7/gal

Re: First and Only E85 Cobra in BMMC!
Im currently working on plans for a engine that runs on tap water... I am going to use a fusion powered compound spliter that will give me pure oxygen and hydrogen... Hydrogen has an octane rating of 130 and I will use the oxygen to give it a little "boost" during detonation...
I figure at like $0.00000007 a gal... I will have an excellent return on investment! Plus I can use all plastic parts... up to the compound spliter....
Do you think I should install a Pur or Brita inline water filter?!?
