on going drive shaft issues
well we adjusted my pinion agle again last night. brought it down to -1, this may or may not be the true angle as the angle finder we were using was crap. any ways were going to check the angle again soon and work on it some more. the vibration hasnt gone away it comes in hard around 90-95 mph. i get a harmonic vibration around 70 mph thats not very bad, so little in fact i have to have the ac off and the radio off to be able to feel it. i feel like were closing in on the problem.
ive done quite a bit of research in the past few weeks and have come to a few answers. after the next round of fighting this drive shaft its going to come off and go to tulsa drive-shafts for re balancing and out of round checks. 38 dollars for everything. im going to put in a call to ford about pinion seals just in case as well.
if all else fails im going to put in a order for a cobra flange and flange adapter and well switch out the joint on the drive shaft(this is the set up Greg the corvette crusher uses) im also consider a steeda competition adjustable upper control arm and adjustable bracket as well as LCA relocation brackets.
this thing has really pissed me off and the gloves are coming off. im going to make this drive shaft work come hell or high water.
what i dont get is this drive shaft is a shaftmasters 1 peice. i have searched high and low and no ones had a problem with them. nothing but good things about them. i just don't get it.
being hard headed isnt always a good thing

And had you never f'd with it, you would not be having all these problems. How many times have Elli and I told you "just drive the motherf'ing thing and be happy"?

shut it hypocrite! coming from some one who wants to cam stroke and change their supsention!
hahaha any ways i just go off the phone with shaftmasters, they said to double check the flange again so i guess itll be going back up on a rack ill pull the flange and rotate it 90 degrees then well reseat it after i clean the threads of all the thread locker. they said theyve had problems mostly with its not seating fully.

Re: on going drive shaft issues
You want me to cam, I want to replace suspension. Never had the problems you have when screwing with a car. Mine goes back together quite nicely. HA!!
Just saying, you should calm it down with the mods, one disaster at a time, Squig

yeah this is a gulf sized disaster. 5 weeks and still no clear solution. if reseating the flange fails then the only thing i have left to do is bring the pinion angle to -3. LCA relocation brackets are in order one way or another...i just dont want to do them yet.

Re: on going drive shaft issues
Solution= Speed limit is only 75 anywhere you go, turn on the ac (it is a heat index of 115) to cover up the noise and obey the law.
p.s. leg is healing nicely, 2 weeks and it should be back to normal with a nice scar. Thanks ass.

let me get my fire works canisters out...if you will kindly put your leg in the ammo containers while i light a strobe and drop it in this will go much easier.
i would totaly do that if i didnt ever want to race again. also im concerned about the potential for damage to my pinion flange seal. vibration can tear the seal

Re: on going drive shaft issues
Actually i'm only 1.2 miles from my work, and have been stopped twice for speeding, so i guess that makes me more of the "stones in the glass house" kind of person.
Re: on going drive shaft issues
Hey, have you read through This Thread from Justin @ VMP?
The problem you may be having could be a result of the type of U-joint being used. These vibration issues are the main reason Ford went to a 2-piece DS on the S197's............

just read it.... and i really hope this is not the case. if it is its going back to shaft masters and theyr going to find a way to take any slop out of that slip yoke. if that fails its getting sold.

Let's just say that there's a reason why I have modified damned near everything on my car EXCEPT the driveshaft........

Re: on going drive shaft issues
We just need to get it on a flat rack and adjust it with my gauge. If i were you I would get the cobra flange and yoke then you wont have a seating problem thats what I did to mine

itll have to be rebalanced then. talked to shaft masters, they said the shaft and adapters balanced as a single unit. either way i may be ditching the j & m uca, talked to some more people they said the BMR UCA has more adjustability.

Re: on going drive shaft issues
Pinion angle should be -2 for a stick car,use the face of the harmonic balancer rather than the rear of the tail shaft for your front reference. If the car is lowered you need Instant Center Brackets as your instant center is now somewhere near your front bumper.Make sure the joint has no side to side play.If you send it out to be balanced have them also check the phase of the joints.I like the Metco arm and brackets better than any out there.

instant center brackets? not familiar wiht those. my car was lowered from the factory. 1.25 inches. stock height for a shelby gt

Re: on going drive shaft issues
They change the lower control arms mounting point, moving the instant center toward the rear of the car for better weight transfer and handling.

Re: on going drive shaft issues
I'm I the only one that find it funny that Jared keeps talking about Shaftmasters? and why are you replacing all that crap on your car anyways? Do you really think it is going to help your slow ass car go any faster? Really?
If you wanted a fast car to begin with... you should have bought the GT 500... not the GT with a shelby dress on it!
