Went racing in Missouri
I just had to do it....my brothers I went to the drag strip that's fairly close to my home town. It was just another 1/8th mile track but there were deffinately some heavy hitters up there. It was a great time for sure. There were like 4 cars running in the high 4's and probably 10 or so running in the low 5's. Way too many cars to count that were in the 6's. Then there was me running my Cobra LOL
I entered the trophy class because I knew I didn't have a chance in hell to win in any of the classes. I just wanted to make a few runs and have a good time.
Here's the breakdown of my runs:
1st run 1.80 60' 7.69 ET @ 92.55mph (time trial)
2nd run 1.77 60' 7.71 ET @ 93.38mph (time trial)
3rd run 1.75 60' 7.68 ET @ 92.78mph (time trial)
4th run 1.75 60' 7.62 ET @ 93.76mph (1st round of eliminations) I dialed in a 7.65 because the sun had gone down and it was way cooler than when I made the other runs and getting cooler. I broke out but not as bad as my opponent so I went on to the next round.
5th and final run (2nd round of eliminations) of the night for me as I got eliminated because I missed 2nd gear. I did end up getting a best ever 60' of 1.680 on that run. I think if I had been able to keep things together like in my other runs, I could've pulled off a high 7.5 run.
I had an awesome time and who knows with a little more seat time, I could actually be considered consistant...not consistantly inconsistant. LOL

Re: Went racing in Missouri
Well a 7.65 ET in the 1/8 mile when converted over is an 11.93 in the 1/4 mile...so GREAT JOB!!! A 7.5 run would hav put you in the 11.7 1/4 mile range.... WOW nice!

Re: Went racing in Missouri
Yeah, it was a great time. On my last run I think I could tell that the car 60'd better and I got too excited and that's when I missed 2nd gear. What a pooper! The amazing thing is that the only thing that I did was take off my street tires, throw on the E.T. Streets and let the car cool down. I didn't adjust the rear shocks any at all and it performed flawlessly. The driver needs a little practice though. LOL

Re: Went racing in Missouri
Thanks guys. I'm really itching to go a 1/4 mile track. As the summer approaches, my schedule seems to get more and more filled up. Getting to a 1/4 mile track may be hard to do.
I'm hoping for an 11.6-11.8 run at 120ish mph. It seems 3rd gear pulls really hard and long so we'll see.

Re: Went racing in Missouri
I love the Sonic blue Cobras. I can't see the pics because I'm here at work (damned military DOD filters). Where did he get it from? I know a guy that was thinking of selling his SB Cobra. What kind of mods does it have?

Re: Went racing in Missouri
He baught it from Mike at Archangel Motorsports. It has 25k miles and has been garaged kept.
It has a
Cold Air intake
Magnaflow mufflers
Pulley change
Custom Tune from Kurtis at Archangel
Boost gauge goes straight to 10lbs when he gets on it...its bad ass

Mitch do you have an email I could send the pics to? Could you open it then?

Re: Went racing in Missouri
Sounds like he got a cherry ride. It's time to up the boost and hold on. Sounds like he's got about a 3.1 or 2.93 upper pulley on there. Time to slap on a lower pulley setup!!

Nice pics man. Got your e-mail. I wish I could've found a SB Cobra. Oh well, Mineral Gray is fine by me though, it draws less attention and I sneak by the PoPo's quite a bit. I'm sure if I had a SB or Torch Red Cobra I would have 2 million tickets by now.

Re: Went racing in Missouri
Jarrod, I was thinking last night as my eyes were closed, getting ready to fall asleep....Then it hit me!! You said it pegs over to 10 and stays there?!?! It sounds like the previous owner(s) didn't do the boost needle mod.
What you can do is take the dash cluster cover off, then GENTLY remove the boost guage needle. On the back of the boost guage needle there is a small little tab that keeps the guage from going past 10psi. Carefully clip it with some wire cutters and re-install.
That will allow his boost gauge to go past 10psi. There is another mod that you can do if you don't want to go with the A-pillar boost guage too. It's called the Hilton boost overlay. It just puts the numbers on the dash and you can keep the stock(ish) look. It's a very cool item!!
http://www.boostoverlay.com/index.php?pgn=newhome <---clicky linky.
If your friend decides to do the needle mod, you might as well do the overlay. I would've if my needle mod wasn't already done before I got the car.

Never never never.... I pretty much live on ModularFords.com though. I think they have the best tech section for 03/04 Cobras.

Thanks Mitch!! I think he needs to get an aftermarket boost gauge myself...but I think he wants to keep the stock look. Would it really be pushing 10lbs of boost with just a pulley change and tune? I dont think anything else is done to it to increase the boost other than that. How much boost is he running approximately with just a pulley change and tune?
Guest- Guest
Re: Went racing in Missouri
Most deffinately he could be pushing more than 10lbs of boost. It really depends on the pulley size. I'm running a 2.76" upper and see ~14lbs depending on weather, more if its cooler, less if its hotter outside.
Here's a link to a great site that has a chart for pulley sizes and ratio's and how much boost should be seen for each combo. The site has lots of FAQ's about 03/04 Cobra's too.
http://stangshiftergaskets.com/2003_2004faqs.htm#_Toc35092361 <----- clicky linky
I say take a look at the pulley and if it's not marked with the size, then measure it. If it's still the stock 3.65" diameter pulley measure the lower pulley. Refer back to the chart and that's the estimated boost he is running.
Hope that helps
