what do you guys think about flood damaged mustangs? i can get a 2005 for about 4000 and i was thinking it would be a perfect vehicle for me to stripe and rebuild the way i want it. theres no frame damage to flood loss vehicles usually. the electrical is a total loss but that's OK. thats something that can be rewired easily(thank you EE classes!)

besides the electrical and the seats and carpets is there anything else that i would have to replace? would this be a good alternative to buying one used? it would be a v6, im just going to tear out the engine in it and put in a custom 302 stroker(courtesy of greg and his awesome parts supplying ability!) all i really want is a frame thats intact.

so whatcha think?

In short they're only good for striping and making a full race car out of. All the electronics will be shot. It probably has a salvage titlem if not it should have. In any case... the $4000 is the the start of the money you'll be spending.

not to mention that you really have no idea how long the car was in the water or what kind of material was with the water. when we were flooded in Coffeyville in 2007, they didnt let us back into our house until 2 weeks after. there was crude oil, acid and grey water in the flood water, not to mention the black mold that had formed on our walls and ceiling.

well my plan was to drop in a 302 so i dont need the electronics any way. you bring up a good point about things in th water. i dont have a clue as to the circumstances under which the cars were flooded. im getting pretty desperate here. i have about 6 months before i really have to make a commitement for college. i dont want to be drivinf my shelby at college dont want to take the chance of some one tearing it up. on the other hand i want to be driving a mustang at college so ive been looking every where. eventualy i would turn this car into a full race car and wouldnt care about anything beyond that but i just want a cheap 05 up to drive during college right now.

ugg i never realized the headaches i would go through just looking for one.

maybe buying a wrecked one would work. youre wanting to replace the engine and stuff, so one thats wrecked in the front could be a good investment. personally, i would buy an SN95. you can get one cheap and focus on that badass engine you want.

I think it all comes down to what work you could do yourself. If the labor is free then you could make it work.Lord knows that you will not hit your date if you are depending on vendors/labor to deliver on time.

I think 4K is at the top end of the price range though. It being a V6 and salvage you will never sell it for what you have in it but hey I am in that same boat.

well im a mechanic so it would be relativly straight forward for me i could fix everything myself. i dont think i would ever sell the vehicle. its would be in the same group as my shelby, im going to drive it till the wheels fall of. i'll bolt em back up and drive it till they fall off again. water damaged salvage mustangs Lol

really something like this would be an alternative to my shelby and nothing more. once im done with college it would become a pure race car. i just dont want to spend 11 or 12 thousand for a gt or v6 when i all i want is the frame.

yeah its a curse for me, im mustang obsessed. if i drive anything during college its going to be a mustang. my shelbys staying at home. no door dings vandals or angry girlfriends to worry about. with a salvage car i dont care if some one beats the snot out of it. i'll buy another frame cheap and move all the parts over.

i already have the parts list for it partialy written up in my head.

4.10 rear end
longtubes
custom sidepipes
race seats
vented fenders
a sweet carbon fiber hood i found(would be painted i dont like the look of carbon fiber)
6 speed tranny if i could find one(5 will work too)
4.6 4v(witha 302 forged stroker kit)

im going to start pricing everything tommarow, cut out the fat money stuff i dont need immediatly and start deciding whats going to be the real bread and butter for this car. the side pipes are a must(always wanted a car with them)

i should be able to get a car together and running for under 7 thousand. just have to be patient on finding a frame i suppose
