Disappearing Cars


In a move largely seen as giving in to Washington, General Motors recently closed it High Performance Vehicles division. The HPV team was largely responsible for GM's most exciting cars including the Cadillac CTS-V and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

Bureaucrats have little use for performance-oriented V-8 powered cars, so don't expect cars like the Chevy Corvette, Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Camaro SS, or Dodge Challenger R/T to survive long term. Their survival is no longer tied to customer demand, but to the demands of the government that now controls the product portfolios and development dollars at GM and Chrysler. Recently, GM announced it was killing its Pontiac brand, a concept that seemed to define performance all by itself some decades ago. Now that brand is gone.

Ford Motor Company will also likely be affected. New emissions regulations may keep future V-8 editions of the Mustang in the barn.

I'm trying to be objective and give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but things like this article are starting to really get to me.

It looks likely that the new Democrat-controlled administration will enact new (read: higher) taxes on the oil & gas industry, including the repeal of current IDC deductions. If they do that, they'll be setting this country up for a spike in energy prices that will make the $147/bbl oil we saw this past summer look downright cheap because domestic producers will cease drilling; thus ensuring increased imports of foreign oil to meet our needs (which, as much as the Democrats would like you to believe, cannot be satisfied by putting up more wind turbines and solar cells). We're gonna need those higher-MPG vehicles that the government will force GM to build because gas will soon be $7 per gallon. I take some small comfort in knowing that the Democrats' actions will cause all consumer products containing oil or its by-products to rise in price, so certain Democratic congressional leaders' plastic surgery procedures will become much more expensive.

well if GM didnt want the communist running their company they should have run it themselves.how damn long could it take to make a 4000+ pound camaro.its not like they been doing lots of R&D on how to make it lighter or faster.

The frickin government nearly killed the US automakers in the 70's, so I guess they are here now to finish them off. Gotta make sure we take care of those polar bears and penguins!

Chrysler to file bankruptcy this morning. There goes that lifetime warranty they were selling.

The Government already announced, with their infusion of billions into Chrysler and GM, that the Government would back those car manufacturer's warranties. So now, in order to get any warranty work done on your Chrysler or GM car you'll have to drive it to your state capitol; wait in line for several hours; fill out 29 pages of forms in triplicate; hand those in; be given another set of 32 page forms to fill out; have an appointment made 6 months out to fix your car; and come back to the capitol in 6 months for your set appointment date only to be told that the one mechanic able to fix your car is taking his comp leave for the one out of 98 federal holidays he had to work overtime.

Very true David, but how many jobs did that create. Thats the big picture you know, creating jobs for people so everyone has a place. Its not about controlling the budget or costs of the american tax dollars. We need to find a true business person to run this country, not some amatuer.

Chrysler will declare BK any day now. Talks between them a Fiat are at a stand still. Fiat will wait for Chrysler to go BK and then buy the remaining 45% interest (The union agreed to take the other 55% yesterday) on the cheap instead of absorbing all of the current debt.

That is what i would do. No reason to take on dept and pay others bills when you can wait it out.

Instead of letting liberals erode our constitutional rights of choice bit by bit, I think that we need to just get on with it and get it done in one fell swoop. Here are some of the things we need to institute immediately to “Git er done!”



Only battery powered Smart Cars will be sold in the US from now on.



Salaries for doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants carpenters etc. etc. will be set by the government so that we have a “fair” compensation program.



Married couples must live in a 1200 sq ft house. Each child will get an allowance for an additional 200 sq ft. Single people will have to live in an apartment.



$100 a week will be deducted from your salary for every 10% your weight varies from the established weight/height standard.



$100 a week will be deducted from your salary if your wanker/boobs are too big/small.



Every household must hire at least 1 illegal alien (no country of origin specified at this time).



No product or service must be rendered for the purpose of obtaining a profit.



Hobbies and recreation activities must fall into one of the following categories: walking, philanthropy, looking, sports, or water related. Collecting is banned as it is a method of hoarding and is not fair.



Football is a banned sport as it is too violent. Basketball is on the cusp, and don’t even mention rugby or boxing.
