Post by DEEZ-67 4/27/2009, 5:24 pm

Some people here may know him. My little brother Dan (Dan05 on the DH site) got in a really bad car wreck last friday. He was in a car with a co-work when the guy tried to make this on ramp at over 100mph and they fell off of it dropping 50 feet to the ground. He went home yesterday and is doing just fine alittle banged up but nothing but a few broke ribs.

Ive been following this on OKDHM Dave. Glad hes ok....looking at thos pics its hard to believe he walked away with minor injuries.

Was the guy trying to show just show off? Being that late at night was there alchohol involved? I mean no dis-respect....Im just trying to wrap my head around this....I mean Dan being in the passenger seat had little control over the situation.

Any details?

And how is the driver doing?

the blood work hasn't come back so I don't know for sure if Sam (the driver) was drinking. But I have heard from a few friends that he might have been. eather way drinking or not thats not an easy turn to make in a stock 4 door G35 at 100+. Sam came out of his coma yesterday and called my brother to tell him he was sorry for all this. Dan told me that Sam was going to make a full recovery. I'm not really sure why he was trying to make that going that fast but they both really lucked out. They both are lucky to even be alive.

If you watch that news report it tells you a little bit more.

Wow, it's amazing they both are ok and without life threatening injuries.

I'm sorry to hear about this. However, the good thing is he and his buddy will be ok and the driver will learn from his mistake.

Glad to hear it is going well. Obviously would have been better if it wouldn't have happened. I think you can safely say the car did its job. +1 for the Japs on a well built vehicle.

i would call it luck, if it had landed on its nose that would have been it. if some one had been in the back seat they would prolly no longer be with us. that was a rough wreck.

Oh, I think the car had a lot to do with the positive outcome for the two occupants as well - I'd hate to make that trip in a Smart car, for example. Very glad that both survived and will apparently make full recoveries.

Dave,

Glad your brother is going to be okay.

That bridge is actually a fairly large sweeping corner. But the "brilliant" engineers at ODOT can't seem to grasp the idea that a beam's pre-camber should disappear when the bridge decking is installed beerdrink . What likely happened was the car was probably setting down from one of the pre-camber crests when the next rise bottomed out the suspension, breaking traction and throwing the car into the jersey barrier.....................just a guess on my part; but I travel that bridge regularly. I can take that corner safely at about 65 mph in the GT500. Beyond that, I begin to "porpoise".

Hopefully several people will have learned from this without "serious" consequences. There is NO safe place to "race" a car. But the only place that is appropriate is the track. Bad stuff can still happen, but it's much more controlled.

I watched a friend of mine flip his car 7 times (nose over tail) after leaving a roadway at over 135 mph last fall. He was lucky to survive and will never recover from some of the nerve damage he suffered. I made a renewed pledge that day to "keep it on the track".
