high idle on cold start
i stated my stang today and the engine started to idle at 1700 then rapidly climbed to 2000 rpm at which point i forced the rpms down to 1000 using the clutch. it only does this when its cold. im not an expert on the 4.6 so im not sure how long it takes for the engine to start oiling the main bearings but im very afriad of spinning one. is this something i could fix? i dont like it to idle so high when its cold. i would contact vmp today but theyr closed so i decided id come to you guys. whats your thoughts on this?
while were on the subject whats a safe idle speed for the engine mine currently runs at 750 i was contemplating droping it down to 500-650. i wanted to check with you all first though
thanks for the help ahead of time

Re: high idle on cold start
The high idle I have heard is to warm up the cats. It can be adjusted in the tune.
As far as engine idle, not sure but 750 sounds about right. This is just a guess but you may loose voltage if you go lower causing other problems. I would keep it around 750.

I dont think it is adjustable on the programmer. I think it is only adjustable in the tune file from the tuner. I think Grabber07' had this and that is what Curtis told him.
