Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
I think most of us are running the steeda pullies. I like the looks of the BBK better than the Steeda...

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
WHAT KIND OF TIME DOES IT TAKE? WILL I SEE ANY DIFFERANCE WITHOUT THE TUNE? ALSO DOES ANY BODY HAVE AN EXTRA SET OF CAM COVERS FOR SALE? I WANT TO POLISH A SET.

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
A tune is not required for pulleys....but yes you should notice the RPMs go up quicker. Net gain is around 7-10 Hp

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
The club uses a rotating set of cam covers. No one has had much luck with the polishing. Paul and blingmaster Bob both polished theirs and coated them in clear. They are now starting to yello w abit. But if you wanna try it I will have the next set for rotation as soon as I get the others back from the powdercoater. You can be next in line if noone else has dibbs on them I'm not sure.
The pullies take about an hour to install the first time I suppose. I believe that I have done enough to get them changed in about 30 minutes. It's pretty easy. If you need any help or pointers let us know. Pretty much just remove the fan and so on. You will need a good pulley puller. The rest is just common sense. You should feel the motor wind up a bit quicker. The biggest difference is with the tune though. You won't believe the difference.

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
how long does it take to pull a set of pulleys? if we have steeda and bbk i would like to pull a set of each and compare there wieght using a pharmaphsyts scale to weight them.

Not sure on the weight. But we've got the install down to an art 45mins. I love air tools.

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
it is not the weight but the size that matters, i may be wrong about that

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
weight plays a cirtical roll in them, less weight means less rotational momentum to overcome for the engine to come into its power band, theoretically(and i know in in practice) even if the pulleys are the same as the oem pulleys if theyr lighter(due to material composition) you should recieve a corresponding hp inscreese due to less parasite drag on the engine. same thing for drive shafts if you replace the 40 something pound drive shaft(can't remember the actual wight) wiht a aluminum(about 25 pounds) or carbon fiber(enxspensive but wiehgts even less) then you will get a corresponding increase in acceleration.
simply put less wight better ferformance and that conclude my nearly pointless lecture since every one already knew that :)

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
i bet they all weigh about the same, if it was just weight diff, then they would make one the same size but lighter. they make them smaller in diameter and make the water pump pulley bigger so you can use the same belt.
less rotational weight does matter in most things ie wheels etc but i bet not in the underdrive pulleys otherwise they would just be lighter pulleys
the UDP is just underdriving the other accessory pulleys, so the engine doesnt have to work as hard thus freeing up HP, they do that with the smaller size. the engine is still turning the crankshaft at the same rate.

you could just email the manufac and get the weights of the pulleys

+1
Also if you think about it, with the bigger waterpump pulley, it means that it will be turning faster which means better cooling. Better cooling means more and safer horsepower.

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
yeah but we have to remember that water pump was meant to be turned at a certain spee....wait if the belts at the same tightess as before that means that the diameter of all the wheels combined is still the same as before, therefore the water is turning at the same speed as with the oem wheels

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
Good point, I didn't even think about that. Reguardless, the main factor(s) contributing to the gains are that the accessories don't use as much power to operate and I'm sure the difference in weight can't hurt things.

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
So how are the pulleys working for you? You should feel the RPMs go up slightly quicker and smoother. As for the Water pump I believe due to the pulley sizes that the water pump spins at almost exactly the same speed as before. No change faster or slower

Re: UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS
Ford actually has the accessoris overdriven from the factory. The UDPs actually slow the speed of all the accessories including the water pump.

i have all the sign up stuff. However, I won't be there. I'm playing dive master that day.
I can give it to Jarrod or David, or we can just wait unrtil the next meeting. It won't be long.
