Sub Amp placement - Page 2 Empty Update

Post by KevinGT 11/13/2009, 11:35 am

I actually burned this video last week but cant stand to hear my own voice so I didn't post it. The plan was to put the car in for a week and for them to get everything up and running. Then before final finish I was to take the car and listen to it for a couple of days then go back in the shop to finish it off. I tried explaining this is the video but the subwoofer placement is not right. If they had moved it up or back it would have been perfect. Since they hit dead middle then the sub landed over the brace inside the spare tire raising it up. The false floor needs to be flush to give me that stealth appearance. The side walls in the trunk are going to have pocket doors for my cleaning supply. The entire trunk will be blacked out and panels will cover all the equipment when I am not in show mode.

The car is back in the shop today and they are going to cut off the top and redo it. Fiberglass is a sloooooow process but the guys are working on it everyday. Layer after layer it is getting done so I am happy. The sound it really good and the JL ZR speakers are really unbelievable. I can hear things in the music that was not there before. When the Nav unit comes on giving instructions it only uses the tweeter so I get a clear separation unlike the stock speakers that would never seperate out from the back to the front. Now it is clear that the head unit/NAV has turned off the front, given instructions and then turned the music back on. It has also improved the hands free talking somehow.

As far as overall sound I would rate it a 6 out of 10 but remember the tech has not tuned the car. My main complaint was the sub cut off level was not right. It gave me great sound when it was Rap music and great sound when it was bluegrass but if I played hard rock that uses all speakers/instruments then the music did not mix well.

To tell you the truth...I dont think anyone likes the sound of their own voice. haha Video was good....I like what you have going on. I think its going to look and sound killer.

Cant wait till the final result. Keep us updated as I know all of us can appreciate custom work!!

Your car is definitely one of a kind

Really short video but you can see the amp wall is up and the black mesh is in place. They are carpeting the sides of the trunks because those will be used as compartments. If not you would open a side door and see the frame. It looks like it is far from completion but really its not. I just didn't have time during lunch to wait for them to put it all together. It should be completed by 4pm and will post a better video.

Oh and they are adding the blue lights that match the interior lights, also adding a resistor to the stock amp remote line to get rid of that amp pop that bothers me.

We are really close to being done now. A couple of knobs on the side doors and some carpet covering the 6x9s and then the covers for the amp and sub and thats it.
