3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
Ok, I am looking into purchasing new gears for my mustang, when I buy my CAI. I will be purchasing a JLT CAI from Bamachips along with his tunes. My question is what gears should I run with; the 3.73 or 4.10's? Who do you recommend I purchase them from and how about tuning for the gears and anything else I will need to purchase for the gears? Also who installs and how much. Take in consideration this is a daily driver automatic, driven mostly to work in back from Bixby to downtown Tulsa on the highway. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am trying to get a pricing so I can save up for the gears too.
With Jarrod and Jerry's help I think I have decided on the CAI, but any recommendations would be good too.
Thank you

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
I would say 3:73 for sure with your AUTO, but with those 20'' rims 4.10s might be the way to go. 20'' rims are alot to get moving, but if you do a lot of highway driving you might want to stick wth the 3.73.
What gears do you have currently? You can look under the rear of your car....on the round differential pumpkin should be a white sticker with black letters that tell you the gear ratio.
Kevin dont you have 4.10s...20'' rims...and an Auto? Could you chime in here and give a suggestion.

Call Benji up at BHF... He'll take care of you.
If you have an automatic... go with 3:73 Manual trans use 4:10.

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
Yes but Benji suggeted 4.10s with Kevins auto due to 20 inch rims.....you might want to evaulate all the variables before throwing a solid opinion out there Chief

I AM THINKING ABOUT PUTTING 4.10 IN MINE. I HAVE 3.73 AND DONT THINK IT WILL BE THAT MUCH CHANGE.

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
I would say the 4:10s would be a bit too much with all the highway driving you do. The 3:73's seem to be a perfect match. If you cant decide between the two, you might look into a 3:90, might just be the perfect mix of both.

They are 3.31 right now. That is what the sticker says anyways.

Any idea where to find the 3.90's Jerry. So I can do a little research.

3.31 are stock for automatics... 3.55 are stock for manuals.

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
3:31 is correct for the auto. I noticed more punch in my auto when I had 3:73s installed; it'll scratch rubber shifting into second and third.

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
I have a manual transmission with 4.10 gears and I really like that combination. I was told that 4.10's are really 3.90 on 20 inch rims. I was also told that ford racing doesnt sell 3.90 ratio so I opted for the bigger gears. If you go with 4.10's make sure you dont get ford racing Motive brand because they wine.
It seems like at 70 mph I was at 2000 rpm and now at 70 mpg and 4.10 gears I am right at 2500 rpm. I might need to check my notes but I believe that to be the case. You can buy this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270324017872&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:MOTORS:1123#ht_1805wt_1310
And Benji has the rest of the minor things for like $50.00. Bigger gears will affect gas mileage no doubt. Did you plan to get a supercharger at any time in the future?

I meant Whine and not wine. You dont get Wine with your purchase. Sorry I was watching OSU kick ass and not paying attention.
Make sure the speedo is correct when all is said and done as well.

Yeah I will plan on getting a supercharger in a year or two. No problem having a hard time concentrating watching the Oregon Ducks cheerleaders.

Dude I was thinking the same thing. Those are some of the best looking cheerleaders I have ever seen. I had to slow motion it to make sure I was seeing the 6 packs.

You running an auto or manuel? I figures which is since my mpg is already bad with my heavy foot. How much did the total run you for install?

I beg to differ...your MPG will not suffer badly. Just depends on how you drive is all. I am still seeing 18-19 MPG city and 24-25 MPH highway. Thats not bad in my opinion. Yes when playing with the car on the city streets I see 17 mph but who cares!! haha you baught a mustang...MPH isnt a priority in my eyes...if it is a Prius would suffice

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
Benji charges $200 for the install. So plan on $200 plus the cost of the gears :) You might pick up an install kit but with so few miles on your car he can probably reuse your stock setup with out any problems

Re: 3.73 or 4.10 Gears?????
Well my mileage suffered but I added gears AND A WHIPPLE. Lol. With a Whipple and 20 inch rims I am not looking for a cross country cruiser and expect mileage to drop. Just for future reference though here were my numbers.
Setting the car on Cruise to Dallas from OKC and reseting the stats on the control panel before heading out I did.
70 mph at 2000 RPM and it climb to 21 MPG and leveled off. 21 mpg was the best I had ever seen on the highway ever.
on the way back with 4.10 gears and a Whipple I did
70mph at 2500 RPM and got 15 mpg.
