Take it over to Kris at K&M Muffler in BA. He can do whatever you want with the exhaust. He's really good.

Ya he (I think that was his name, hes the owners son I believe? Drives a lightning) came into my work a couple weeks back to get some slicks balanced. He was a really nice guy and Im going to bring my exhaust in for him to weld whenever I get it.

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
Why are you going with 3'' exhaust? Your going to kill your torque...its not needed or suggested.
There are 600hp beasts running around with 2 1/2'' exhaust.
and just my opinion here...and its your car...but straight pipes sound too crackly and too loud. kind of like a honda accord who took their muffler off and when he drives by you go....EWWWW get a muffler ....Loud is not always better. Find a combination of sound and smoothness...thats a beautiful thing.
Long tubes are an ok idea....but again with no air comeing in (CAI, CMCV,Etc) your not going to see much of a gain.
but again its your car...good luck

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
I would agree but like Jarrod said it's your ride and you have do do it your way. I would say just get the LT's and flow tubes that mate up to your factory cat back system then find some mufflers you like.

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
we'll see i LOVE the sound of open exhausts my first shelby had loutmouths on it, theyr basicaly open pipes, just not as loud. im not going to lose as much torgue as you would believe and since im not drag racing it doesnt matter. eventualy i will supercharge it, i just cant afford the charger right now.

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
Well like I said it's your car. You have to do it your way. I guess if its just for sound though. You could save yourself some money and just have some pipes made to bolt to the existing muffler mounts at the rear of the axle deleting the mufflers and put a cheap off road H-pipe on it. Would cost a whole lot less and sound basically the same.

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
Well what I think really dosen't matter if you have your heart set on doing it the way you plan. But since you asked my opinion then here it is. I would ask yourself some questions about what you are planning.
1. Why long tubes?
2. Sound improvement?
3. Power improvement?
4. Cool value?
If you want the Long tubes thats great but to go long tubes and 3" pipes straight out the back for one will be way way way too loud. You will hate it. It will also kill your low end. These care are not that torquey as it is. The factory setup isn't bad. I would do the Lt's change the mufflers and see how you like it. Then you can always get the cat back system later if you decide to. The factory system is good to over 500 rwhp without seeing a sizeable restriction. I would save the money and put it toward the purchase of a supercharger. The exhaust isn't one of those areas that requires immediate attention to improve the fun factor of your car.

I say long tubes, off road x or h, and keep the stock mufflers for now. See how you like it then go from there.

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
your right, i can always do the axble backs later if i like, i have alot o have to get done, so i guess i'll do the cheaper option and get some noise out of it. i need to put gauges in and put in new pulleys then move onto suspension(doing it later cause its so exspensive)

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
wel i was originaly going to do that route but its the same amount of money for the 3 " lts as it is for the 2 1/2 so i wass just going to do the three and put in an x pipe, its only 400 more to do the full system and seeing how i feel the stock mufflers are too whiney(i always hated them) i was going to do the jba's cause theyr deep and sound really good

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
Again like David said its your car...do with it as you please. But since your asking I will tell you "my" opinion. Im not one for sugar coating it.
3'' exhaust will sound like crap. WAY WAY TOO BIG of an exhaust pipe..will be WAY TOO LOUD...will alsokill your low end torque. I know you say you dont drag race...but you dont want to kill the power you have even for daily driving.
Dont get me wrong I like loud exhaust....just not as loud as your car was either. I remember you pulling out of curtis's and getting on it....NOT a fan of that sound...but hey thats me...it was way way too loud and RASPY and was Popping like a cap gun was shooting out your exhaust.
For "ME" A smooth strong sound with deep old school bass is a beautiful thing. The off-Road X and H with flowmasters is a great example. I liked my Stingers and X pipe but again was way too raspy so I put resonators in front of the axle to disperse the sound....Sounds perfect now! With long tubes it will sound even better. Not at all loud...just a Smooth and Stout sound.
I say get NORMAL long tubes 1 3/4 or 1 5/8 with a 2 1/2'' off road x or h and see how that sounds. If your wanting more you can start playing with the axleback.

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
Or maybe Im getting too old? I just dont think louder is better...not for any price. Its quality of sound that most are after. Heck if you want loud..lets just unbolt the exhaust from your headers and let you drive around like that....its basically the same thing :) just sayin
but im a stubborn old man...dont listen to me...Im trying to take Bobs spot in the club!!

Re: i need plain axle back pipes
I just cant help but thinking about when you let off the gas, it will sound horrible. crack.. pop..crack...pop. Like grabber said before it would sould like a honda with no muffler. It would be loud and it will turn heads but i think if you knew what those people were saying when they heard your car you would change your mind.
When i here something that loud i look and i bet that guy is like "yea ..yea everybodys looking" but im saying good god that sounds like shit and get some mufflers. Then i say I cant believe that guy likes that sound. He just wants attention and he does not care if it sounds good at all.
No offense. I would just hate for you to do something that only a hand full of people will like and most will hate, but its your car. You do what you want. just my .02
