Mufflers
So I am looking at my current mod list, trying to figure out if there is anything worth saving or if I should sell everything in the preparation for getting an 11 5.0. I have also been scouring the net doing price checks trying to figure out what to do to start with the 2011 when I get it (hoping by July but we will have to see what bonuses are like and what I can get paid off before then).
The main thing I am concerned with is the Borla ProXS Mufflers that I have on the V6 right now. Love the way they sound on GTs, and am wondering what opinions are about adapting them to the 2011. I know I will have to dissect the flowtubes to match to the H-Pipe, and then I will get rid of the dumps and run piping out the back.
Looking online at the Borla ATAK mufflers, I am kinda not liking the idea of spending $800-900 on just a set of mufflers and 10" of piping. If I can use these and run them as a cat back, I think it would be better.
I have little to no experience with the 05+, so need to know if this is a good idea or no. I have a guy that is offering me $150 for these mufflers if I return the system to stock, but I don't want to regret it when I am shelling out $800+ for mufflers. I feel the ProXS will give the same feel as the Borla Touring for the 2011+, which I am fine with if I can save $750 doing it...

Re: Mufflers
They won't fit. Do not try to rigged them to so they were not designed to so. Plus they were tuned for a V6...
If you have a guy offering you $$ for them, take it.

These mufflers actually came off a 97 GT. I just got them cheap so I ran them.
The whole "tuned" thing is actually what I was worried about. Every muffler I have seen for the coyote had to be reconstructed because the 05-10 mufflers sounded like crap so they had to redesign for the coyote.
I guess my original thought was to tie them in to these, but now that I look at it, this piece actually ends where the axle-back mufflers tie in, so I see it wouldn't work anyway.

$900 is a lot for mufflers though...
Re: Mufflers
Look... modding cars is expensive. You accept that when you decide to mod. Or you can decide not to mod. You don't have to!
For the love of all things holy! Stop trying to duct tape everything together. You're cheapening the brand.

Re: Mufflers
Oh trust me, I know how expensive it is. Was just trying to salvage something I already had. I am having a hard time finding a car that already has 10k in mods done to it like you did Paul... so I have to budget my mods into the purchase...
Re: Mufflers
I'd say just sell everything you have and try to make enough off those parts to try to get a few worth while mods for the new ride. Honestly I'd do a SCT tuner and tune with a good CAI first thing. Mufflers can wait. I'd spend that money on the tuner and tune.

Re: Mufflers
Or scrap the '11 5.0 idea and get a used GT500. You really wont have to mod it much to really enjoy it. There are used Shelbys for less than the 5.0

Re: Mufflers
If I can get rid of the blower and the Cobra bumper set-up my plan was SCT and mufflers.
But I have plenty of time to decide, will be June or July before enough is paid off to go through with it. But I have at least decided to not to continue the 6.

Re: Mufflers
Like others have stated, completely different motor and exhaust...so the sound will be completely different.
I know you would like to change the mufflers, but have you thought about JUST changing the midpipe to a high flow or off road? Garantee you would like the sound and for only $200-$300. Half the price of the mufflers and you actually will be gaining HP and sound, instead of just the latter.
Sell what you can from your car and start saving. CAI, Tune, Midpipe would be my first mods, then start looking at tires and suspension! :) Some start with the suspension and rubber, the power bug gets me so I start with the HP first, then try and get it to hook.

Re: Mufflers
Good advice yea everything is up for sale and i am getting some bites. Hoping things move quick.
Re: Mufflers
So until I get it, while I am parting out the sixxer parts I think I will roll them in to an SCT tuner, the Lethal Performance 3" O/R H-Pipe, and maybe a JLT intake.
Re: Mufflers
If your wanting mufflers to smooth the sound out or even a used H/X pipe, I would keep my eye on SVTperformance.com's Market section for exhaust. Lots of good deals. Can pick up a set of nice mufflers for $150-$300.
Here is the 2011+ GT & V6 Market section

Re: Mufflers
yea I need to venture to other forums. I don't get on SVTP much right now except to cruise the Classifieds for my Gen.
I have checked a few other forums, but not much for the 11s right now.

Re: Mufflers
I just installed the pype bombs on my new 5.0. I must say I wanted something that wasn't super obnoxious but also grumbled when I do decide to get on it. This was a perfect choice. They sound really good. It's got a nice tone all around. Pretty inexpensive also.

Awesome. I haven't heard the pype bombs yet but I'm glad you're happy with the sound.

Logan, I thought I saw you this morning on Yale heading up the hill from 81st towards 71st. Not sure though. If it wasn't you then there is another white 5.0 with exhaust on it. It sounded good.....

Thanks dude, yeah I was on my way to work. I don't think I've seen any other white 5.0s around town but I'll be on the lookout for Alex now...I might have a clone running around Tulsa though. The dealership told me they ordered an exact duplicate of my car by mistake but I'm not sure if it sold here in Tulsa or elsewhere.
The offroad x-pipe really amped up the volume but I like the sound.

Where do you live at? Where do you work at? I was running late this morning. I'm usually at that intersection at either 6:45 or 7:45, depending. I usually go up 81st to Sheridan, then hit Sheridan north to my work at Fontana, but if the school traffic is backed up I go up the hill. Look out for motorcycle cops after peaking the hill on that neighborhood street after the apartment complex on the right with the pond, if you didn't know already...
After you passed this morning I saw a cop in the old Borders lot that you passed by. Good thing you weren't stretching her legs....

I live at 109th and Yale and work at 61st and Yale. I'm at that intersection around 7:45 most mornings but I was running a bit late this morning too. Yeah that motorcycle cop is ALWAYS at that apartment complex, but I didn't see the cop at Borders haha.
You're around 81st and Harvard right? I used to drive down Harvard some mornings rather than Yale but school traffic plus construction at 91st and Harvard wears me out.

Yup, right down the road from Blair. Neighborhood behind the old SoCo's.
My dad lives at 101st and Yale. On 101st just west of the elementary.
Yeah, avoid 91st and Harvard unless you're driving a truck/SUV and not in a hurry....
If you ever have to go down Sheridan:
in the mornings: there is usually a motorcycle cop on a neighborhood street across from the bank between 71st and 61st catching speeder going north to work
noon/afternoon/5 o'clock traffic: there is usually an unmarked car in the church lot facing north to catch speeders coming down the hill from 61st towards 71st on Sheridan
You know Fluffy is down the road b/w Yale and Sheridan off 121st....
