possible alternator?
ah here it comes. only took almost 5 years, but my wife was on a trip with our car club when halfway to the destination the charging system lamp came on. by the time she got there (about 20 min later) the battery was dead obviously causing the car to not start again. they hooked it up to another car for a few min w/ jumper cables. she made it a few miles and it died again. jumped again and all the lights were out, but she was able to run a red light to get it into a parking lot. think it's safe to assume it's an alternator?

Re: possible alternator?
99% chance it's a faulty alternator, Bob. Unless it threw the belt, in which case she'd be having all sorts of other problems too. Is she far from home? AAA member, by any chance?

trip wasn't far only about a 30 min drive. went to a big cat rescue just outside of town. they had to jump it a couple times to get it back into town and into a parking lot. that's the one car we don't have roadside assistance on. buddy of mine went and picked the car up last night.

Re: possible alternator?
picked up an alternator from autozone online while they were having a killer deal. spend 100 bucks on ship to home stuff and get a 25 gift card for each 100 spent.

Re: possible alternator?
i won't install it before having the old one checked out. just figured it would be good to have in case it did end up being bad. really just didn't want to pass up what really ends up being 50 free bucks
