Air Filter Empty Air Filter

Post by Corepuncher 10/17/2011, 4:57 pm

Got an Airaid blue filter back in July. By the way, look at what Airaid spells backwards. Noticed it when I was in front of a mirror.

Anyway, the color is about faded, to a "grey" look. Looking online I think I must have gotten the kind you clean and oil...is that what you guys think? I'm looking now and they have a type that says no oil...some newer material, synthamax I think. I guess I got my filter too
soon. So now I'm debating do I spend 11.00 for the cleaner/spray, or just buy a new synthamax. Oh the horror.

Edit: I was under the impression that a "Blue" cleaning kit would restore the color. CJ Ponyparts guy said no. So the oil is not tinted blue at all? I might as well just get a new synthamax.

The blue oil kit should return it back to the color it was when it was new.

Jerry and I just switched to dry filters. I personally like them better.

I think I'd like to switch as well Chris #1, but since it's only a few months old I'm thought I would get the 11 dollar kit. Comes with spray cleaner AND oil...but the guy at the store made it sound like there is NO color to it at all. Anyone know for sure? Or, David, does cleaning somehow reveal the old color again. Maybe it's just dusty but from what I can tell it has faded.

What cleaner/oil kit did you purchase? Got a pic or link?

Well, I've never used a blue oil filter but with the red ones from K&N the oil is actually red. I assume it would be the same if they have a kit that is specific for the color filter you have.

Here is the link to it:

The guy I talked with even asked someone else. But my gut tells me the oil should be blue???? Shrug.
The guy went so far as to say it says "blue kit" because the cleaner is specific to the material used in blue filters. I'm not sure about that at all!

The cleaner for the K&N kits smells like glass cleaner to me. The oil is what is tinted a color. If it's specific for blue it's because it contains blue tint/dye.

They will never look 100% again, but the actual oil you would think would be blue
